I have that sound it's not very loud or happens all the time.... It's a perfect ballance of wind and speed something in the car design is making that noise like a whistle... It's nothing broken, just that... I'm seeing a trend of the same things going on with everyone's cars... At least it's being reliable!
I have noticed this strange behavior that only occurs at highway speeds, 70mph+. I hear this weird squealing noise coming from the front end, it sounds almost like a turkey or a turkey call box. It *seems* like it happens when there is a strong wind draft. It's concerning me a little bit because I am taking a trip up to NY in the spring in the Insight. Has anybody had this problem before?
I found this thread while searching for a similar problem. Hopefully you've gotten it fixed by now, but I'll tell you my experience in case it helps....
Bought a new 2012 Insight on Friday, took it on the freeway Saturday and heard a loud squealing/whistling noise. Eventually discovered that pushing on the headliner or opening a window made it stop. The dealer thinks the windshield wasn't properly sealed at the factory. Have to wait until Monday for them to bring a glass guy out to reseal it.
It's nice to see such an active (and helpful) forum. Hope to own this car for a while, despite the initial disappointment with this windshield issue.
I have the SAME EXACT problem! I just bought my 2012 Insight last month (NEW), and it does this. I have yet to take it to the dealer though. I was trying to pinpoint when it happens, and you described it perfect. Im not sure what the problem is either.

Did this fix the issue? I had this noise happen to me on a long road trip and it was annoying the heck out of me. My car is also a brand new 2012 model.

Yep. It took a couple trips to the dealer, but all seems to be in order now. First time I went in, they confirmed the problem and scheduled an appointment with a glass guy. He "resealed" the windshield. I'm not sure what that entailed, but it wasn't enough. The noise was still there.
So, I called up the dealership to let them know. They called back later that day to say they checked with the district service manager who said there have been a couple with that issue and the only way to fix it is to replace the entire windshield so it can be resealed from underneath. So, after a couple days wait, the new windshield came in (original Honda glass), they swapped it out, and problem fixed.
If you do end up getting it replaced, I recommend googling for aftercare suggestions. All they told me was not to wash the car, but there's a few things you can do to help it seal correctly, such as leaving a window or two cracked to prevent pressure build up. And be sure to keep the tape on for 24 hours.

Awesome thanks for the info, Im hoping I don't get a crazy look when I take it in. I was wondering how to tell them what the car was doing. I even recorded the sound on my iPhone to take with me LOL.
Good luck. You can always point them to this forum.
For what its worth, I recorded it as well and they seemed to appreciate it. The service adviser called a tech over and had him listen to it. One of the big giveaways for us that it was an air leak is that we could stop the noise by pushing on the headliner or rolling down a window.
well, i drove my new 2012 EX home last night and it started "whistling" at around 65mph. I was PISSED!! Brand new car. So on my ride home of 2 hours, i think i pinpointed where it was coming from. I could push up on the windshield right around the rear view mirror and it would stop.
Today i investigated the top of the windshield on the outside and noticed a small, very flexible rubber seal going spanning the entire width of the windshield. It looked like something that would vibrate in the wind. So, instead of taking a chance of someone else screwing up my new car, i took some clear silicone and put a few SMALL dabs between the seal and the roof panel. Hopefully this will hold it tight and stop the problem. If it doesnt, i'll take it to the stealership.
update: They found the issue was in fact the windshield leaking and they have resealed it like Ayrix said. Don't have the car back yet, they have to let it dry, then test it again. Here is to hoping the entire windshield doesn't have to be replaced.
The issue with many of the 2012's seems to be with wind noise and the windshields. I guess the 2010 and 2011 Insight Owners are lucky that our issues were only the rubber roof strips and crappy tires?...
