Oh and guess what? That battery was under warranty for 36 months regardless of miles. Including the labor to install it. After three years it's prorated. Now the conventional wisdom around here is to replace that battery with a much better one. But in your case having the NAVI die in their hands would have been nice. (if it's even really broken at all) But I still think there's some trick having to do with rebooting that thing.

egads, I think you are right. A fellow named Rob posted where he had some trouble using his hands-free and he replaced the 15A "back up" fuse and fixed his problem. I decided to give it a shot. The fuse wasn't blown...but when I replaced it...well let's just say when I thought I had replaced it. It stuck in the fuse-tool and I didn't notice that I failed to reinstall it. The fuse panel is very small and good eye-sight is key. The car didn't start the way it usually does, it was more like a 93 Taurus than a 2010 Insight, and there was an instruction to check the IMA. Anyway, I properly replaced the fuse and the IMA alert went away and audio system performed the way it previously did and should. (She also started again like she should.) I don't use the hands free but if I had to bet those functions hadn't been working properly the whole time either. I assumed the "back up" fuse protected either the back-up camera or the "reverse" light, but apparently it doesn't. Either way I'm thinking it'll be awhile before I have to let the porter at the dealership drive my car again. (grimace)

Actually, you have a vehicle that requires software updates at the dealer. You must have a good dealer these days with almost any vehicle. Hopefully you live where more than one is available. Ironically, we bought the NAVI just to get bluetooth. Starting with the 2012 models, all EXs have bluetooth.

I haven't had to use the dealer yet. My car has 40,000 miles on her and I have been doing the routine maintenance myself. I tried to buy a base model from TAMERON HONDA in Birmingham, Alabama before I found the used EX I currently drive. After I drove the two hours to buy the car, they went Darth Vader on me and attempted to alter the terms. I didn't have anything in writing, so it was easier to walk away than it would have been to try to enforce the deal. Needless to say, I won't be using TAMERON HONDA in Birmingham, Alabama. As it turns out, I got a used EX with NAV with 17,000 miles for about $2,000 less than I would have paid for the base. I bought her at an Audi dealership in Huntsville, Alabama. I don't think the Honda fit in with their other cars on the lot, so they wanted to get rid of it. I was in and out in about an hour, I paid exactly what I had negotiated over the internet, and they also served to me a delicious cappucino while I did the paperwork. In any case, if anyone knows of a Honda dealer with a reputable service dept. in North Alabama...

I cant say I am totally impressed with my dealer. The parts department is my favorite. Free sodas, wifi, phone, computer and a friendly lady who works the counter. All the guys who work the counter are dicks. It seems in their mind you have to buy 100 bucks worth of stuff or nothing at all. The lady will see you a single item or even order it for you.

When I ask to get a service done or something looked at I have to wait 3 hours.

Go to the diagnostic screen in the nav unit and force a reload of the firmware from the DVD.

The Bluetooth system can only remember a certain number of devices. When our new phones wouldn't pair I finally figured out the memory was full. After entering the navi menu in the MID I deleted all the old profiles and our new phones then paired with no problem.

As for the IMA. My 2006 Civic has an IMA pack that is recal'ing nearly every time the car is driven. It's supposed to be at 158v nominal voltage but ranges from 190v when full to 172v at 2 bars on the gauge since the last software update (there were several for the Civic Hybrid prior to the "big one" in 2010 that supposedly caused all the problems). The I2's pack is smaller, rated for 100v nominally, at it lacks electric the dual-scroll AC partially powered from the IMA that the HCH II has. Hopefully the smaller pack will be less likely to develop bad cells or go out of balance.

All I can say is that after my experience with my HCH II (conveniently after I bought my I2), a buyer would have to be brave indeed to buy one of the upcoming plug-ins from Honda. Between extended warranties and failures in gen 1 Insights, declining function in Civic IMA packs, Honda has yet to prove they can build a reliable hybrid system/battery.

Ive managed to find fault in all automotive designs. Ive been impressed with some of the ways Mercedes did stuff on the 240d I had, but the rest of the vehicles I end up changing a lot of stuff, buying aftermarket or synthentic parts and servicing it at different time frames. One of my biggest gripes is brakes. I like my brakes tight and sharp.
