Unhappy My 2010 Insight making a thudding noise when it went over a pothole is it normal??

My 2010 Insight making a thudding noise when it went over a pothole is it normal? It comes from Right front wheel and less on left front wheel, No other sounds or shaking movements. This sound comes even for 3cm height bumps on the road!! Please advice!

Cars/Tires will always make some noise when they go over bumps at speed, but if this noise is something you never heard before and is occurring even when going over 1 inch bumps I would say no, it's not normal.

Always check the basics first. Start with tire pressure if you haven't already checked it. I'm not sure where you are but very cold weather can also make things contract and freeze/bind and make strange noises. Is this noise worse when you first start driving?

Without much to go on it sounds suspension related or possibly a brake caliper/pads rattling or thumping.

If you can't find the noise yourself you should probably get the car checked out by a good mechanic.

Good luck...

Default It may be my shock aborber!!

This sound comes from the Right Back side only appears when i go over bumps also the car is bit shaky now and i suspect it may be the right side shock absorber back +/- Front Right one. Is there anyother thing in the suspension system to check?? If it is a trouble in the back shock absorber is it necessary to replace both L and R back shocks at once?

We're getting a little conflicting information here. Your first post says the noise is mainly right front and no shaking and your second post says right rear and car is shaking. How many miles do you have on the car?

I would recommend you get the car to a competent tire/alignment center and have them check the car thoroughly including suspension, alignment and tire balancing.

Yes, shocks and struts should always be replaced in pairs.

If the front struts are loose they knock on bumps under 35mph. I had one loose when I installed lowering springs. My left rear spring creeks on bumps, but I have had a lot of stuff in my car and am sure its a growing pain from just over loading it.

I too agree on taking it to a alignment shop. THey generally check for free. May charge you an hour labor to tighten anything and try to sell you on shocks, rotating the air in your tires and flushing your turn signals with new blinker fluid.

My 2010 with 26-27 k on it creaks a bit going over bumps and potholes, especially when cold and damp. No thuds though.
