Default 2013 Insight EX Paddle Shifter Problem

On my new 2013 Insight EX when I use the paddle shifters in "D" mode after about a minute, the paddle shifters will turn off and go back to automatic. I have tried several times and it never stays in manual for more than a minute, it will stay in manual without issue in "S" mode.

Also when in "S" mode I can stay in automatic until I pull the paddle shifter and than it will change to manual, but when I pull and hold the shifter to switch back to automatic, it does not work, it stays in manual until I switch the car back into "D" mode.

I have read the owners manual several times, and the modes are not working as they should when following the directions. Has anyone else had these issues?

How do you figure? I cannot use the paddle shifters in "d" mode at all, since it shits them off right after being turned on, and in the manual it states you can use the paddle shifter in "d"mode and have access to 5 virtual gears?

D mode is semi automatic. In my experience our will only hold the gear ratios if you are decelerating, cornering or going downhill.

From what you've described, it sounds like yours are working perfectly. If you want it to maintain your selected 'gear' you'll have to drive in S.

That's my understanding as well, based on my reading of the 2013 manual and the explanation of my dealer.

S is considered both a Sport mode with autmatic ratio selection with the option to select and within reason have the car lock in that ratio. Over all its lower and keeps the engine around 3 grand or 60% load.

I typicalls use S in stop n go traffic. I turn off econ in interstate traffic that varies in speeds from likr 45-70 mph. I havent really found a good use to select a gear, but I do bump the - one in drive when braking to brake harder and get more regen.
