Overall Rating:

At the time I purchased my Insight, I was driving my Saturn SL2 126 miles round-trip to work everyday in South Florida. When the gas prices went over $1.50, I had to do something. I'd checked out the Insight but knew my dealership wouldn't have any for a while, but a week after leaving my name and number, they called me.

It came off the truck on Friday evening, and I was there Saturday morning. I test drove the car, fell in love, signed the papers, and drove home before lunch. The sales people were all upset because no one got a chance to drive it. (It was the only one on the truck and they weren't expecting another for a month!)

I now live even further away (driving 180 miles round-trip everyday) but the amount of money I save on gas almost pays for the car.

The biggest "problem" I have is that when I'm driving down the turnpike in the middle lane behind a slow-poke, I'll look in my left rear-view mirror and see someone hauling up behind me. In your head, you calculate the amount of time before that person will zoom by you and you can move into the left lane, right? Invariably, however, I'll wait that amount of time my head caluclated but realize almost too late that the person didn't pass me. I look in my mirrors, but I can't see them. Sure enough, I turn my head to the left and find them sitting in my blind spot, marvelling at my neat little car. They get their fill after about 30 seconds and move on. But, there were a few times early on that I almost merged right into a few SUV's because I didn't look first!

The only thing I don't like is driving in the occasional frog-stranger type rain storms we get in the summer in Florida. You can't drive without the A/C because your windows fog up and you can't see. The road is covered with water that the car has to push through. This combination usually brings the battery down to nothing pretty quick. Fortunately, these types of downpours only last for about two or three miles after which I can charge back up.

The number one question I'm asked: "When does it switch over from gas to electric?" or the similar "Can you tell when it switches over from gas to electric."

I love this little car!
