From my home to the autozone store in Troy, mo. traveling so. with a southwest wind of approx. 20 m.p.h.. Several hills slowed me to 53-55. keeping foot out of it amd letting the assist help me up the hills. People at the store were absolutely amazed.Going down the hills I reached speeds of 70-72, as I kept a steady feathered touch on the gas. I am so happy with this little car!! I used the 1-2-5 method, also.

I recently topped my record from Vail driving the 14 miles at night, no a/c, no wind, with one 4 mile stretch not going over 65 mph and averaged 102.2 mpg for the 14 mile stretch, fairly flat, a few dips.

My 1 year anniversary trip.

Short trip from South Lake Tahoe to Placerville. This was an improvement from my last trip last year of 85.5 mpg from North shore to Sacramento. I did achieve 97.7 mpg after the first 35.4 miles, but too short of a trip. weather 60 degrees, clear and dry Uphill grade of 5 miles, downhill for 20, up and down for 35.

I weigh 60 KG, and the car was unladen.8.

The Insight wasn't mine: I am a previous Honda customer. On the dealer's approval, I got on the turnpike with no fuel (absolutely NO fuel), and put one gallon in. I drove as far as it would let me.

Trip was from Flint, MI to Ypsilanti, MI. I was drafting a semi for about 60% of the time at anywhere from 2-3 car-lengths.

Fuel was at about 1/4 tank, and the load was myself (~150lbs) and a 25lb overnight bag.

Wind wasn't really a factor, since I  was moving mostly due South. Also, the terrain was mildly hilly. I was impressed with my Insight, and this is a personal best. (My previous record was 85%0D%0AMPG driving westward under similar conditions (no drafting, either)).

Trip Description

I went on a ski trip to Lake Tahoe last weekend and reported the results above on part of my return trip. The journey was from the North shore of the lake at 6900 feet to Donner Summit at 7239 feet dropping to just before Sacramento at 250 feet altitude. I maintained enough speed to stay in the left lane (70 mph) for the 93 mile trip. I peeked at 85.5 a number of times. It appeared like that was the maximum mpg the car was able to get.

These were the results at the following altitudes:

5000 feet 74mpg
2000 feet 83mpg 73 miles
1000 feet 84mpg 86 miles
600 feet 85mpg 90 miles
250 feet 85.5 mpg 93 miles

On a side note, during the trip arriving to Tahoe I achieved the following in battery charge:

3000 feet 55%
4000 feet 30%
5000 feet 25%
6000 feet 20% - some down grades and upgrades follow
7239 feet 40% - this was a surprise
6900 feet 100%

Trip Description

Traveled into Washington DC on business from the western rural area of Virginia (West Virginia is only 15 miles down the road). Temperature was 70 F on a clear sunny day, so no AC was needed (odd for DC in the middle of August...). Approximately 12 miles during the first part of the trip was going through the Appalachian foothills, so there was plenty of moderate hill climbs. 96% of the drive was on highway (freeway) during non-rush hour time, so few stops and starts. Total drop in altitude between origin and destination was around 300 feet, so that was not much of a factor.

Ran it up the eastbound Blue Ridge Summit on I-64, cresting at 72mph on a 48 mile trip to CHO airport that averaged 61.6 per gallon, including 20 miles of mixed suburban and stop lights. 75mph avg down the interstate. Not bad for a new one! I think I have the hang of driving this thing. The battery did run down to about 1/2 at the top so it will be interesting when I go back on the westbound slope which is over twice as long.

We have been waiting to buy this car for months. This was our third dealership that we have dealt with. We had to drive 203 miles up to FortWorth from Austin, TX.

203 miles 55.9 mpg Trip Description Our first trip, home from the dealership. Fort Worth to Austin (one way) I-35, temp 90 degrees Sunny day, low wind, heavy traffic in Fort Worth but medium light on I-35 between towns. ran air-conditioner on ecno. We switched places driving at the half way point (Waco, TX) driving while the other followed with our old car. (our old Truck ate 1/2 tank of gas on the way home, ~10 gallons @ $1.48 a gallon )

Trip Description

My trip consisted of: 50% county expressways (35-45 mph), 45% city streets (25-35 mph); 5% freeway (65 mph).

During the trip there was no wind; light fog; headlights (evening driving); rear window defogger (50% of trip); cd playing at moderate volume (playing Loreena McKennitt :-)).

Ideal mileage speed was around 35 mph.

When leaving an interestion (increasing speed) I pushed 5500 rpms going thru 1st and 2nd gear about 1/2 the time; the other half of the time I used the shift indicator to go from 1st to 2nd, then 3rd gear. In all cases, when I reached the speed limit I shifted into 5th gear.

When approaching a red light I very lightly applied the breaks while staying in 5th gear until the engine dropped to ~1250 rpms. At at ~1250 rpm level I would drop into 2nd gear and break until Idle Stop kicked in. When Idle Stop was kicked in I would shift into neutral and break fully.

Obeying the "two second rule" I followed a semi to work. He drove different than most, obeying the truck 55mph limit at the tops of the hills and saying below 65 in the valleys. I noticed that I was applying gas uphill more gradually than I normally do, and going lower than 50 mpg for very short periods, but generally changing mpg slower than I'm used to. I tried driving the same way on the way home and was able to save the good numbers from the trip to work.

Trip Description

I went on a business trip from Gastonia, N.C. to Columbia, S.C., and to Mooresville, N.C. The first part of the trip was on two-lane country roads 30 miles to I-77 south of Rock Hill, S.C., then on to Columbia. Just a little bit of driving in downtown Columbia, then the return trip up I-77 to Mooresville, N.C. For parts of the trip, I had averaged over 84 mpg. This was possible due to being able to draft some transfer trucks for a large part of the interstate portion. However, it dropped below 80, to the 79.4 average after I lost my best drafting "buddies". It is absolutely amazing the difference that drafting makes. It is much easier to keep the mpg near 100 or more by drafting. Without it, I think the mileage would have been in the low 70's or high 60's. I used no air conditioning on this trip.

All but 4 miles interstate with several moderate hills at 65 to 72 MPH.  Mileage was up to 80  but city streets lowered it at the end.  Anticipating hills really helped keep mileage up.

Trip Description

We took our first long distance trip just two weeks ago. We traveled from Spokane, WA to Leavenworth, WA and back to Spokane (400 miles roundtrip). On the way there, it was very windy (30mph) and there are some significant hills. With two of us (305 lbs.), full tank of gas, traveling at an average of 68mph, we got right around 58 mpg.

On the trip home, the wind was going with us, had less gas, we weighed about 10 lbs. more (great food there), and were travelling at about 70mph. At the end of the trip we managed to get a round trip average of 64 mpg.

I did try drafting- behind a semi truck is scary, but REALLY improves the mpg. Behind the new VW Bug (or was I in front...it's hard to tell) does little for the mpg. I'll bet cruise control would also help- (sigh)

All in all I was very happy. We moved right along with hwy traffic, even passed once or twice. The little engine does show itself on hills of any consequence, but just drop the car into one lower gear than a normal 5 speed, and the vtec picks up and puts out, although the mpg bar gets really small.
