Welcome to InsightCentral. Below is an experimental welcome message that I am developing to provide new members with some basic information. Soon it will be transmitted automatically to all new members
_________________________________________________

PLEASE RETAIN THIS PRIVATE WELCOME MESSAGE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE

Welcome to Insight Central (IC). As a new or prospective owner, you will quickly recognize that the Insight in its various models is a unique and very interesting car. The following comments apply almost entirely to the first generation (2000-2006) Insight since this is where new owners are currently experiencing most of the new owner difficulties.

If you are just contemplating the purchase of a Gen 1 Insight, you should read this link:
https://www.insightcentral.net/forum...yers-tips.html
If you have already purchased a car, then use the information there to assess what might need attention on your new purchase.

There arises the question of maintaining your new purchase. These cars are fairly old, the newest being 14 years old at this time. Also most are selling at fairly depressed prices. This likely means that a new owner will want to stay clear of expensive dealer maintenance. Huge amounts of material are available on IC to help a diy owner do their own repairs. There are two resources here on IC which will help you identify and make your own repairs. First, member deadpool has created a well organized Index to help you find needed discussion threads. That link is here:
https://www.insightcentral.net/forum...%2A%2A%2A.html

If the engine or IMA system has a malfunction, the Check Engine(CE) light on the dash will likely light up. If the problem is limited to the IMA system, the the IMA light will likely light up also. You will want to retrieve and understand the trouble codes and their subcodes stored in the car computers. Member ab???? has created a chart which will allow you to discern the reason for your warning lights:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...jDFylA/pubhtml

This robust spreadsheet contains links to a wealth of information other than just the diagnostic trouble codes, so spend some time exploring this excellent resource.

Seems like a useful message with pointers to info.

Getting folks to read through it and explore the links before asking common questions is another matter entirely...

I was actually going to mention that the links in the introduction didn't work.
