Default Help chasing down P0303 on 2001 MT

This is our second 1st gen. It's a 2001 MT with 247K miles. IMA and original cells still working but that's another story.

This engine runs strong even in the worst of weather, but lately it's been experiencing a miss that gets worse with engine temperature. To me it's most noticeable at steady cruising speed when one cylinder doesn't fire maybe every few seconds, increasing in frequency as the engine warms. P0303. Swap 1 and 3 coils, same. Then spark plugs, same. Injectors. Still P0303.

I'm taking a break.

Next I suppose is compression, maybe fuel pressure. Am I forgetting something obvious here?

Unplug EGR valve and see if the problem changes.

Maybe a valve just on the verge of being too tight?
