Haven't taken a long trip with my Insight for a few years, and I had to visit some folks in Galveston and San Antonio before heading back to the Dallas area. Almost 900 virtually-all 75-85mph highway miles and ten days later, I'm back with a trip average of better than 55mpg, with the AC on 68°. The valet parkers at the Marriott Riverwalk even kept it by the entrance during my visit, next to a Bentley and a 911: The guy said people kept walking up to it and taking pictures of it...

Rain and rush hour traffic in Austin dropped my second tank's 58mpg average down, down, down... Dammit...

Ha! I bet my supervisor took a pic of your car and texted it to me! Next time you’re in SA let me know. I’ve got to get an old fashioned Hampton Roads meetup set up down here sometime soon!
Nice job, BTW. Austin’s traffic and construction will get you every time.

Speaking of photos, idk why but the past few weeks I have been getting thumbs up, questions, and snapping necks when driving the insight. Then it'll go for months with nobody noticing it. So bizarre. Almost at 265k! Amazing vehicle!

Welp, got in this morning to go to work and I noticed when I put my seatbelt on it was SOAKED. Before, at its worst it'd be a little damp, but I guess since it's been pouring all night it finally gave in. Time to do some research and make a trip to Honda, since I need to clean my EGR plate and get a new rear motor mount!

You can pull it all the way out and wrap it around the back of the seat before you expect any rain.

Wet seatbelt fix involves removal of roof molding to seal around a specific fastener- which is notorious for leakage. Please see Video:

And if you don't drive your car every day you can end up growing mold in all that moisture.

I had no idea what I was letting the car in for when I parked it with 3 feet of snow on the roof for the winter. When I came back last spring to drive it again there was a horrible smell in the car, visible mold hanging and on most surfaces. I had to treat all the seats and carpet and leave the car in the blistering summer sun with the windows down to get it drivable again. It's still not right.

Also not driving it regularly is really bad for the battery pack.

Took it apart even more, funny how just a few maintenance items turns into me resealing everything pretty much just because I'm already halfway there so might as well do it all haha oh well. Let's just hope I can achieve 70mpg once it's all said and done.
