Default HV Battery and ECON mode

Hi guys,

My 2010 Insight hit the 120k Miles without anche single problem.
The HV battery Is in good shape.

Now the question:

I've never drive in ECON mode....because i thought that the econ mode put the HV battery in stress...more assist, more recharge etc.

It Is better to drive in ECON?....or Is less stressfull for the HV if i drive in normal mode?

I want to limit the stress on my battery...here in Europe will cost 5000$.

Thanks

The adjustments that the car makes between the two modes are very slight. My Gen2 friends report mixed fuel economy results with the econ mode, so I don't see a lot of difference. You might try running a full tank in each mode and see if it is even worth running econ. If the difference is only 1-2 mpg, then run it the way you feel comfortable.

I don't recall ever seeing your basic question discussed before. There was a time after the Gen 2 was released when I read those threads carefully. The answer to the question would require a lot of carefully controlled testing and even then the answer is probably within the statistical noise.

Of course, there are always opinions without data

When we got our HCH2 one of the selling points was that the car would adjust to the drivers style of driving, and it appears from your post that your car has adjusted to your style of driving very well.

Like jime posted above, it depends. And that depends is broad ranging, with many differing opinions based on personal observations.
I personally agree that less stress on the pack ie: less assist and less regen, is advantageous to pack longevity... again due to my personal experiences with my HCH2. The other factors for pack longevity in my opinion are temperatures both hi and low the pack is subject to and use of A/C .... of course that includes drivers driving style

This is what caught my eye initially. That 5000$ looks like the price Honda might charge for a new Gen3? 2019 insight lithium battery pack replacement. The Gen2 2010 you are posting about has a really small pack. Smaller than the Gen1 insight. So Hondas' replacement cost should be way less the the US $2300 (variable depending on dealer) for either the Gen1 144volt pack and the HCH2 158volt packs..

One easy way to check the price is to ask Honda in the country you are in how much the battery pack replacement is for the european version of the honda CR Z which uses the same smaller NiMH pack.
