Default Scumbag

I just can't believe the world we are living in.

I bought a jug of oil from WalMart for my son's Miata. I drained the oil and started pouring in the new stuff. I noticed that it looked dark in the funnel, but he needed the car, so I continued pouring. It didn't look too bad on the dipstick, but it was not nice and clear.

The dark oil kept bothering me, and the next morning in the shower (good time for thinking!) I remembered that there was no foil seal on the jug, but the cardboard insert was stuck on the jug. I poured a little of the remaining oil in a glass jar and it looked REALLY dark.

It suddenly dawned on me what had happened. Some scumbag had bought a jug of oil and changed oil in his car. He then filled the new-looking jug with the OLD oil and returned it to WalMart for a refund. WalMart then returned it to the shelf, and I was the lucky guy who got the prize. I also returned the jug to WalMart for a refund and bought a new jug with a foil seal.

I just can't imagine somebody who would do this. It blows my mind.

If it helps, I just accidentally did this to MYSELF when changing my wife's oil.

I started pouring "new" 5w-20 from the 6-pack case in my shed. And then I looked at the inside of the bottle I just dumped in and remembered... I put the old, used oil last time back into four one-quart bottles in the cardboard box I got them in to make it easy to take and recycle.

Duh.

I had to go crawl back under and take the panels back off and reopen the drain plug and drive to the parts store to buy oil that was actually new.

Felt real dumb.

An employee at Home Depot said they got back a 5 gallon bucket of paint with milk in it. What would you possibly say if you got caught doing such a thing? I guess we all have a price, but I'm sure it is not a gallon of oil or 5 gallons of paint for me.

I bought a desktop computer last year from Walmart. Kept it for 48 hours and finally changed my mind. (Old one was an easy fix) I never opened the box and when I took it back the store opened it because "some people" buy computers and then stuff the box with material and return them for a refund. "Crooks are everywhere".

Their mothers must be SO proud. They probably stole flowers from a cemetary or somebody's yard and gave them to them for Mother's day.

I bought a set of wiper blades at Wal-Mart once, which had one of the buyer's old blade in the pack. There are some really low ethics out there. Also bought a previously opened kitchen faucet kit at Lowes which was missing one small part. I never buy a previously opened package anywhere any more.

Recently bought a shade canopy at Costco. First time I set it up I found the sidewalls were there but the canopy top was missing. Exchanged it with no problem, Costco is awesome about exchanges. Even though I explained what the problem was, I wondered if some other person would grab it and put it back in the stack on the sales floor.

And that same person would do it again and again.

Years ago, I worked at a major rental car company. We used to have people who would rent the same car as the one they owned. When the car was returned, it would have (4) bald tires. We had to eat the cost of replacing the tires (sometimes rims and TPMS) as we couldn't really challenge the customer.

My philosophy is that you have to look at yourself in the mirror every morning. You are the best judge of your moral character. Some people do not have any qualms of "getting over" on a company.
