Remind us, which Insight do you have? 42.3 is about the mileage I would get if I drove my 2013 like any other car, but by keeping a close eye on the DIC mileage meter and always doing my best to maximize those periods of 75-100 mpg, I've averaged 52.4 mpg in mixed highway/city driving in the first 2000 miles on mine and 54.9 on my last fillup after 400 miles. Wind is the biggest drawback to mileage imo, and using cruise control whenever possible [along with EVO mode, of course] is among the best strategies for increased mileage. The cruise control never feeds more gas than absolutely necessary to get up to speed or maintain speed. My Insight is a CVT; this may or may not be true for manual transmissions or Gen1. As an example of wind problems, I've found that a strong side-wind is almost as damaging to economy as a head-wind, thus killing mileage when I turn in 3 out of 4 directions! Can't wait for balmy, calm days of late spring and summer. 60 mpg tanks seem quite doable then.

I'm right in thinking that nw Ohio is flat and Seattle is hilly and famous for stop start traffic? Apples to oranges comparison really.

The potential for hitting really high numbers is far better if the terrain is flat (or gently rolling), the weather is mild and you're willing to drive slowly on major roads.

The CRZ forum has a thread of Seattle owners getting 30s mpg, even 20s if they only do short journeys.

I live in another city built on 7 hills, with plenty of traffic. My mpg average over the last 14k miles is 46mpgUK (38mpgUS). If I drove with no consideration for economy it could be much worse.

I live in CA and I get about 40-43mpg... Driving for efficiency is quite difficult in some areas and might be annoying to other drivers.

I typically keep up with traffic, so although I do not post much achievements, I think its still good considering the speed the traffic I keep up with.

Yeah, America is all mixed up. Some areas the speed limit is high, others low. Some areas are hilly, some are flat. Almost all have speed limit increases at the bottom of a hill or on ramps and other counter productive designs for mpg.

Default mpg

Bought a new insight about a month ago, I drive mostly in flat area, so far I am getting about 55 mpg (miles driven/gallons ) computer says about 58. I drive about 35 miles to work and back. If my trip is less than 10 miles then I average around 45 mpg. Best mpg has been when the weather is about 70 degrees or above, It drops to about 48 mpg on colder days. Most of my driving is in 40-55 miles/hour range. My best mpg was on a flat road doing 35 miles/hour and computer said 65 mpg. Love everything about the car except seats.

Also in California, OC, and I am getting the same range. Some weeks I am doing 41.5 others it is 44.8, all depends on traffic and when I get off work.
