Default RE: Discontinuation

Remember if Honda discontinues the Insight they will lose the title of having the best gasoline milage rating for its fleet of vehicles. I had thought they were proud of this fact, even if the title was boosted owing to the Insights great milage.

Hmm, well I suspect that they will still have the honour of best fuel efficiency for their fleet. They will not sell the best mileage vehicle. They will also not be building any aluminum vehicles as the NSX was discontinued as well. Aluminum takes more energy and costs more to produce but it lasts way longer and is easily recycled. Ironically in twenty years there will probably be more Insights on the road than first generation Prius, because the Prius bodies will have rusted away. They will be more valuable than the second generation Prius or Civic II hybrid simply because they are low production. Sigh.

Anyway, I'm looking foreward to seeing what Honda and Toyota will produce in the next few years.

Well, sounds like it's not an "if". The word is out - no more Insight....

Maybe up there in Canada, or here in Michigan, but there is a whole lower chunk of the US where rust is not an issue.

I predict that the resale of the insight going forward will not be any different than any similar car. The demand wasn't there when they were new, and it won't be there for used ones either. But keep dreaming about huge investments growing in your garages! I'll be buying one soon, but not for an investment.

A good investor makes money if stocks are rising or falling. Since I don't plan to sell until the Insight or myself become untrustworthy the outcome is a academic.

Decades of dealing with rust have given rise to my passionate disdain for steel bodies.

True collectors are not happy when prices rise. Really, I'd prefer to see production continue.

For me the Insight is a long term investment in gasoline savings. It gives an immediate return in terms of meeting interested and interesting people, and it is in a modest way my legacy to the future generation in terms of public education and conservation.

Hope you find what you are looking for.
