Default CRZ hybrid CVT is *higher* than manual?

I just noticed this. How is this possible and why is it not true for the Civic and Insights that the CVT is higher than the manual version?

37 MPG highway (manual transmission)
39 MPG highway (automatic CVT)

Rated higher, but from fueleconomy.gov

Numbers from actual drivers:
2012 MT = 42.4
2012 CVT = 41.6

Fuelly doesn't let you break it into auto/mt for some reason?

Sam

Wonder why the real world value is reversed from the EPA's tests?
So what's the real story with CVTs? Do they really wear-out in half the time as a standard automatic?
