Default Silverstar Ultras or zXe bulbs?

I have been reading over a few older posts about changing out headlights on our G2 to Sylvania Silverstars. I have been using them successfully for years, most last me about 3 years. But with the light through the projector lenses just doesnt seem to be as bright as I need on dark roads. My headlights are polished like new, very clear.

Been reading about the newer Sylvania zXe bulbs, same ratings, just whiter, but they dont have the same life-span I am reading. Anyone have any experience with these?

I have a cheap HID kit which works very nicely. The projector lenses produce so little stray light that the glare outside the bundle is low compared to other cars even with these HIDs.
I had a spare set of bulbs with my HIDs and already needed them. These bulbs are cheap, so good to have in stock.

I'd say don't bother with halogens of any type. Only HIDs and some LEDs will provide 'enough' light.

Accord horn, Waxoyl, HIDs, Green Oil, UltraGauge, LEDs, full upper&partial lower grille block, aero tweeks, plans for several eco mods

Right now I dont think HID would work in my budget. So I guess I will stick with the Silverstar Ultras for now.

Above budget...?
I have something comparable to this: H11 55W 3158lm 5000K Car HID Xenon Lamps w/ Ballasts Kit (Pair) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme
That is lamps, cables and ballasts together for less than $25. An extra pair of lamps would set you back for about $8.

Only problem is that this set does not have a proper H11 plug; you have to shove the metal pins in the connector, then tape it up thoroughly.
The rubber plug is for small lamp housings; the ballast would not fit in them so you'd have to drill a hole, feed the cables through it to the ballast outside and the lamp and connectors inside.
Our insight does not have a lamp house so you can cut away the rubber plug to free the cables and mount the ballast wherever it is out of the way.

I'm happy with my set (at least, the second set of lamps that now has about 2000 hours of use on them).
You can make your own choices, but I doubt you'd ever regret getting HIDs.
