Default CVT fluid

Can I use Valvoline CVT fluid in my 2010 Insight? I thought I would change mine but the nearest Honda Auto dealer is 50 miles away.

Just asking

Scratch that. I will buy the Honda fluid on the way home from work. Has anybody done this? Do I need a filter? Is there a filter?

Yeah, any cvt fluid for honda vehicles. I use eneos myself.

There is a filter. I would not bother with it on a first change, though another thought is to replace it on a first change to get rid of factory assembly debris it might have caught, then not bother with it for a while...

I replaced my fluid at about 25k miles and it was so clean I did not feel there would be anything on the filter to worry about. Might do it around 60k miles with my second CVT fluid change.

Considering this car may have quarter of a million miles it maybe a good idea. There are 2 filters and a magnet, but for the most part we just replace the inline one to the cooler.

Standing on the drivers side looking under the hood, look straight down the radiator between the engine and cvt, more so towards the cvt. You should see the cooler lines and a typical inline filter or accumulator looking thing.

Thats the online filter. We replace those after the first change and a few down the road. I recently replaced mines with an aftermarket one with a magnet inside.Inline 3 8 Magnetic Transmission Filter by Magnefine | eBay

Oh, was that the high-miler recently acquired? Yes, I'd replace the filter for sure on that one. Don't forget new washers too, if there are any - forgot if there were any washers or not, like on the oil change plug...

Default cvt fluid change

Does draining the CVT get most or all the fluid out?
On the regular honda automatics they recommend 3 drain and refills with some driving between each to get most of the old fluid out of the torque converter.

Draining takes most of the fluid out. There is no torque converter and other places for fluid to hide like in regular automatics.

thanks Kocho
fluid and drain plug washer ordered, saw the cvt drain plug while changing the oil 2 days ago.

next on the list,,,,
now I have to fix a leaking trunk too.
Got rear ended 2 years ago
an under 5 mph bump at a red light
and the body shop at the dealer contracted the rear bumper skin replacement for a gran.

At first glance yesterday,
I see the trunk seal is wet on the bottom and the spare well is collecting what seeps through.
It's only just started to rust in two spots a bit.

This is gettin monotonous I swear I'll have some good news one of these days, I hope ...

Sorry to hear of that, but glad you are ok. I carry a cooler full of ice and it snot uncommon for it to roll over and take a leak in the back of my vehicles. Because of this I normally drill a few holes so it can drain out.
