      Fake Chips?
      
      I bought 10 x cheap max rs 485 Chips from e-bay..

      When testing the BCM Replacer project I noticed the 5v regulator on the OBDIIC&C board was struggling and the MAX chips were very hot.. WTF...
      
      Changed them for some old LTC 1487's I had from the BCM interceptor and back to normal.
      Now fake or just not right... Hmm... Might try some of the others tomorrow. Hmm the bin beckons..
      
      Anyway ordered some cheap transceivers from Farnell so at least they should be genuine.

      Ten chips for a pound, and free shipping? Definitely sounds suspect to me... the close-up of the laser markings on the top of the IC looks abysmal too. I wouldn't be surprised if they were counterfeit.
