  1. Honda reprogramming Civic hybrids..Insights?

    Honda Insight Forum 1st-Gen Discussion
I'm worried that Honda might decide to reprogram the Insights as well as the Civic Honda to reprogram 90K Civic Hybrids due to battery failure DailyTech - Honda Civic Hybrids Encounter Battery Life Problems, Software Update Problematic for Some hope these links post ok
  2. Honda reprogramming Civic hybrids..Insights?

    Honda Insight Forum 1st-Gen Discussion
I've read that Honda has been reprogramming the Hybrid Civics. Apparently to extend the life of the batteries (via reduction of discharge depth?). At the moment I'm a little reluctant to take my Insight into the dealer for fear they'll reprogram it and I'll take a 10% hit in mileage like I've...
  3. How / Why of Hypermiling and Insights

    Honda Insight Forum 1st-Gen Discussion
I first became aware of Insights when I read they were going to be sold in the U.S.A. ..I guess in late 1998 early 1999. I thought the concept was great, but my vehicle at the time was much too new for me to trade in (only 8 years old!) so I had to wait. In the ensuing years I became peak oil...
  4. 60.1 LTMPG on a 2006 CTV

    Honda Insight Forum 1st-Gen Discussion
Good grief Hitech, you must spend 4 hours a day in your Insight. It's amazing, I just turned 30k in my 2006 a couple weeks ago..mileage adds up slow when you only drive 13 miles to work. griller
  5. Life time Mileage With CTV

    Honda Insight Forum 1st-Gen Discussion
Yes, as much as possible I hypermile. For the Bakersfield trip I tucked into the truck lane going over the Tehachipis and just putted along at about 35. I do my best to stay off the batteries. I work at timing the most recharge to ocurr on the long grade into Grapevine where I really need it...
  6. Life time Mileage With CTV

    Honda Insight Forum 1st-Gen Discussion
See my signiture. I only have 28K on my 2006 mostly 'cause my commute is only 13 miles or so. I just did a run from south bay Los Angeles to Bakersfield (125 miles one way) and averaged 71 mpg for the round trip. 2 hours of stop and go for the last 25 miles didn't help much! But I rarely get...
  7. Shutting engine off while in auto-stop to park

    MPG Issues
I do that every time I park my CVT, and have been doing so for a couple years with no apparent ill effect. It's not the gas I'm trying to save, its the battery charge. Why go thru another start up and then shut down immediately? It just uses up charge for no good reason that I can figure. Griller
  8. Newbie still learning

    MPG Issues
Met-head, I make the same trip to Palm Desert a few times a year. How I look forward to that 30-mile down hill from Beaumont! The climb up from the L.A. basin pushes my CVT down to 55 mpg, my wife can practically hear my teeth grinding in frustration. But oh, when the batteries are full...
  9. *****EPA 56-57 MPG CVT? How Come I don't Get That???***

    MPG Issues
Skuits, the short route to better gas mileage in a cvt (after checking your tire pressure) is battery management. The 5-speeders manage lean burn, cvt drivers manage battery charge IMHO. I drive 13 miles one way across the Los Angeles basin every day to work, and while the trip is mostly...
  10. 30 mile trip & 150mpg !!!!

    Problems and Troubleshooting
I have had this happen to me 3 times or so. Each time seems to have occurred when I turn off the engine at a stop. Usually I have been suckered into taking my foot off the brake and had the engine re-start. I turn off the ignition, but the light changes in less than ten seconds (fooled...
  11. LMPG meter drives me nuts

    MPG Issues
Red1dr, I think you are probably right. When I run extra figures right of the decimal up to 3.96 l/100km I get 59.35 mpg. Ha Ha, shouldn't that round to 4l/100km? when I put in 3.955 l/100km I get 59.43 But 3.95 l/100km returns 59.5 mpg! to skip two tenths I need 3.944 l/100 km to skip three...
  12. LMPG meter drives me nuts

    MPG Issues
OK, so I went and changed the readout to liters per 100 km. the reading was/is (and I checked it twice) 3.9l/100km. (over 29,497 km) By my calculation that means my lmpg should read 60.3 (rounded from 60.26903). BUT MY LMPG METER READS 59.4! either my math is wrong, which the actual...
  13. We were wise to buy an INSIGHT!

    Honda Insight Forum 1st-Gen Discussion
Jat1793, thanks for the link, I have never watched an episode of Southpark before. Cute. (no commentary on TV there, I just am busy doing other stuff). I think there is a difference in the kind of smugness I feel, from that on display in the episode though. The hybrid drivers in Southpark...
  14. LMPG meter drives me nuts

    MPG Issues
ah, Thanks for the reply, it's a rounding artifact I guess. I don't reset the LMPG because I want to be able to easily calculate how many gallons the car has used. I'm the original owner, so aside from the dealerships barbaric practice of running the car to charge the batteries, I have only...
  15. LMPG meter drives me nuts

    MPG Issues
Does anybody else have their LMPG meter skip tenths? I recently changed my route to work, and have experience a dramatic increase in one way mileage. The morning commute gets me up close to 70 mpg pretty regularly. (The afternoon is about the same mpg as before, about 60-61). So I have been...
  16. Keep my manual Insight or buy an automatic?

    Honda Insight Forum 1st-Gen Discussion
JoeCVt Yeah, I would too, but any route I take through L.A. to my workplace is basically a death sentence when ridden on a bike. I've done it twice, other than having 13 miles home against a headwind of about 10mph it is otherwise very doable. My wife told me no mas until a bike path or other...
  17. We were wise to buy an INSIGHT!

    Honda Insight Forum 1st-Gen Discussion
I work for a small (very small) oil company. When I bought my Insight in March 2006, my co-workers thought I was nuts. One went out and bought a Yukon Denali not too long after I bought the Insight. She is verrrrrrry defensive (meaning she seeks every opportunity to justify her riverboat of...
  18. Keep my manual Insight or buy an automatic?

    Honda Insight Forum 1st-Gen Discussion
Pro: smooth as silk acceleration. (For me that is almost imperceptible acceleration since I try to hypermile it.) Con: lose bragging rights as most efficient production car on the road. Pro: gain the bragging rights as the most environmentally friendly gasoline production car on the road...
  19. My Second Anniversary of Insight Ownership

    Honda Insight Forum 1st-Gen Discussion
And what does my Insight give me? A personal best on my way in to work. A commute that is 12.8 miles long with 48 potential stops, 45 lights and 3 stop signs. On this particular day I also had to stop for gas! Thinking that my mileage would be shot given the extra couple of stops, imagine my...
