My 12V battery exploded while my 2001 Insight was idling in the driveway. It took something out in my IMA system because now I have no start assist, no regen, nothing. I still have voltage at my grid charger. Any help to determine and fix this would be greatly appreciated. My OBD comes up with P1449 and the blink code is 72. My IMA is on it's way out but before the 12V battery exploded I at least had start assist and some regen after grid charge.

WTF. Why did the battery explode? That would me my main concern first.

I guess there was an extreme current in the battery caused by either an internal short circuit to the battery or an external one. this current created a lot of oxygen and hydrogen combined with a spark or a piece of metal heated to red by the electric current, the hydrogen exploded ...
I guess this is the most likely cause

I guess burst might be a better description. I think that it may have been low on fluid before I charged or maybe it over charged. I have a new 12V batter, now I just need to get my IMA system back to working order. Are there fuses in the IMA battery compartment that could have blown? None of my under hood or under dash fuses are blown. Is there a way to test the 2 modules to see if one of them was blown when the 12V battery went?

Is it running fine without it? Or does it die because the 12v isn't being charged?

If you can get into the IMA bay, you should be able to check continuity on the IMA fuses. I believe they're on the driver's side, something like 100a.

Do you know if the acid leaked onto something and possibly corroded it?

I would recommend checking the 12V battery voltage without starting the car to see its condition.
As the 12V battery does not have a temperature sensor, code 72 must be
linked to the 144V battery.
if the 12V battery has the correct voltage, it would be good to measure the current with an DC ammeter clamp while the engine is running to see what is happening.

Get one of these and check the voltage while running.

The car runs fine without it, just the IMA, CE lights and no regen or auto start. I will look for the fuses this weekend. Since I was in the car when the battery went I pulled it out and put baking soda and water in and around the battery holder so that acid wouldn't destroy anything.
