CHICAGO — After throwing out hints and unveiling concept cars that indicated the direction of the new Civic, Honda finally has gone public with details and photos of its newest smaller car.
The eighth-generation Civic, revealed to the press in August in Chicago, arrives in U.S. dealer showrooms in September. Prices have not yet been announced.
The new Civic is wider, shorter and sleeker than its predecessor. Outside, the Civic features what Honda calls a "one-motion profile" and "an ultrafast windshield rake." Inside, it features an unusual two-tier instrument panel, with a digital speedometer on the top tier and the other gauges in the lower tier.
Each of the four versions — or five, counting the natural-gas-powered GX scheduled for next year — will be positioned for a specific audience. The sedan and coupe come with a 1.8-liter, i-VTEC, single-overhead-cam four-cylinder rated at 140 horsepower, paired with either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission.
The hybrid, about 20-percent more fuel-efficient than its predecessor, is outfitted with a 1.3-liter, i-VTEC single-overhead cam rated at 110 hp, paired with a 20-hp electric motor and a continuously variable transmission. The Si three-door hatchback features a 197-hp, 2.0-liter, i-VTEC dual-overhead cam paired with a six-speed manual transmission.
What this means to you: A Civic for every personality.

I was surprised to see hybrid has smaller engine then the regular. I think that is a good thing as 110hp +20 electric hp is plenty for me. I wish it had a manual option though.
