Hi,
I own a 2012 insight and have owned it for about a year now. I love everything about the car except for the inconsistent cvt transmission.
An example would be, let's say I'm coasting down a hill with no throttle input (IMA on charge) and I slowly get on the throttle pedal. I would get a noticable jolt as the IMA transitions from charge to assist. I can replicate this almost consistantly at speeds under 80km/h. It happens less at highway speeds (100+kph).
I have tried almost everything. Replaced EGR, replaced sparkplugs, replaced 12v Battery, serviced cvt (both filters + honda cvt fluid), oil change every 15.000km.
I have an appointment this coming monday at the Dealership to see if they have any updates for the IMA.
My question is, how many of you have this same experience? I really like the car and would drive it until it falls apart. But this cvt thing is making me want to sell this thing and move on.

Is that true? I can't believe Honda would release such an unrefined cvt to buyers and have no mandatory updates for it. I had to go to three different dealership to try to convince them that my car needs an update. I mentioned that my insight would suddenly start charging while driving uphill and booked me right away.

Updates for forced charging etc brought out years ago,my 2nd insight ( 2012) which I bought in June didn't have updates done ,I couldn't believe it, previous owner contacted by garage that I bought the car from and hadn't a clue ref updates etc hard to believe,and the car had a honda service history in the UK for years yet the lazy bast***s never even plugged it in to check

My 2010 improved massively after having updates done. It turns out that in the UK dealers don't update the firmware with servicing thanks to dome dipstick who sued them for the reduced mpg after they did it for him. I actually had to PAY the local dealer to update it with servicing. It was worth it though. After that, all the annoying regens, high rpms going up hills etc went away. Perhaps I am getting slightly lower mpg but I am getting a better experience.

Could be worse. In the US, some models with CVT have been programmed to act like an automatic becuase customers didn't like the way CVT worked.
