Autotrader has an '04 Insight with "19 miles" listed at Honda Motorwerks in Lacross, WI. I called and the salesman said yes the miles were correct. Something about this one being a executive or left over car- whatever! He said it hadn't arrived yet. I asked if he knew what they were going to ask for it (price wasn't listed on Autotrader) and he said yes, $23,900! I told him what the MSRP was on a NEW Insight and he said something about supply and demand. I told him not to bother to call me when it came in. Any one else experiencing inflated prices on new or fairly new insights? :x

That should be no surprise. People have been paying inflated prices for Prius for years. I don't like it, but I suspect they'll get what they are asking.

As with any item available for sale, these cars are only worth what the seller AND the buyer agree on - Ford Motor Company is finding this out right now, the hard way; once again.

In America, it is permitted to be bold and brazen, so if you want the car, make the salesman an offer for it and be ready to back that offer up with a thousand ($1,000) dollar "earnest money deposit." Keep in mind they have a right to say NO - but you'll never really know if they'll take it or not until YOU decide to make an offer for it.

Keep in mind, the worst they can say is "no".

It's up to YOU! If you want it - go for it!

Here in the Bay Area, dealers were trying mark-ups even before the announcement that they were being discontinued. Still, I was able to get my 2006 for MSRP just a few months ago. I went to a Preferred Honda Dealer or something. They said they didn't do mark-ups. I'd keep looking.

I just bought mine 8/2/06 with no mark-up. I would think being discontinued would cause a price drop rather than mark-up. I know it concerns me.

"What's that you say?" "You want a part for a 2006 Insight?" "Ha, ha, ha!"

I don't know how it will pan out. But the concern is there for any potential buyer. Of course, someone may not be aware of just how few Insights have been built and sold - how meager any return on part production would have to be. From what I've read on here, parts can be hit and miss as it is. I can only hope it's not going to go down hill. Hopefully Honda will stand behind them even after warranty commitments have lapsed. Running off perhaps 100 of a given replacement part to fullfill a meager market seems hopeful on our part. I'd love to be wrong if I still own the car when and if it happens. :D

I just bought mine

Hey there,

I just spent 24,500 on mine - but after they added the fees and taxed it was 28k. Given the short supply of Insights (There were two in CA, UT, NV, CO, AZ, & NM) it seems as though the supply/demand models would come into play.

Well Greg it's a half empty half full glass issue. I think in the comming months there will be a lot of folk beating themselves up that they missed out on getting one. You have one of the last ever produced in mint condition. I've always considered these cars to be worth twice what you paid. Many here who know what great cars they are probably wish they could get a new one. I bought mine new in 2002 hoping it to last a couple of decades. To me it's still like a new car. :D Enjoy!

If it is the case that the Insight is going out of production, NOW, while you don't need the part(s), now would be a good time to start looking around for it/them and stockpile them.

As I understand it, a good bit of the parts in the Insight are identical or interchangeable with the Civic, so make a list of the parts that aren't, parts which will wear and need replacement and do it now while the prices are lower - as opposed to when five or ten years from now when you really need it/them, as the prices will be much higher, unless of course you own or have access to a machine shop and can make your own parts, using the worn piece(s) from the Insight as templates.

Furthermore when a car company agrees to bring in a car to the company the government requries that they support that car with parts for at least 10 years.
That's good to know. It eases my mind a little. Honda is a great company and with that info on top of it we should be ok for a while to come.
