What is a STL and where is Conroe?

Added the Texas bit. STL or OBJ would be the 3D file type. Or DXF. or blender. anything will work. Just wanted to know if anyone might have that part modeled already.

I designed a thing to mount 6.5 inch speakers. It's a complete hack, but it does work. Also allows a decent way to mount rear speakers.
Right now you can't run the speaker cover, so I'm working on a spacer for that. It's an 8 hour print, though, so I'll know tomorrow if it works. If it does work, I can also start designing custom speaker covers that say rude things like "Prius" or "Diesel".

EDIT:
Got about half of a print out before it failed due to the extruder eating through filament. I went ahead and redesigned it to be more resistant to this failure method, but I'm almost out of black filament, so I don't know if I can get a full print in. Regardless, I think it's looking pretty good, and the test fit I was able to do went alright. It's a bit more snug than I'd like, but it's close enough.

I might be convinced to try and find a grey that's a close match, but I think just going for black is the best approach, as the nearest black is far enough away that it's not going to clash as obviously.

EDIT 2:
Confirmed to work for installing rear speakers. Now I need to come up with a solution better than "Put the carpet back in place" for how to cover them.

Sorry for the terrible lighting, but IT FITS!
There are some refinements to be made, but I'm going to go ahead and add this to the thingiverse link from the last post.
Unfortunately, you need a large printer for this part, it won't fit on an ender 3 or a prusa in any printable way.
If someone wants to sell these, be my guest, because I don't really care to.

Work on the covers for the rear speakers... eventually...

I'm not printing it anytime soon, but I've added a replica speaker grille to the thingiverse link. My cad software did NOT like me putting 1200 holes in something.

Should be a good step towards the goal of having printable grilles for the rear speakers, though.

As an aside, just printing the grille might be enough to avoid having to use the grille spacer, as I didn't include any of the backside's ribbing in the model.

I know you've mentioned it in your Thingiverse page already but for anyone that doesn't know/understand yet - DO NOT print this part in PLA filament, it will warp and/or melt altogether as temperatures inside the car can reach well above 130 Fahrenheit during hot summers. ABS, PETG, or Nylon should be the filaments of choice when it comes to this application.

I've been printing ASA myself. It's like ABS, but slightly higher temp range and does not fade from sunlight like ABS! Though, you pay more for it, of course.

There you go, didn't think of that one for some reason! I ordered my trunk release piece to be printed out of the Markforged carbon fiber reinforced nylon filament and so far two summers in and no issues (first time I printed it from regular PLA and it warped under summer heat causing it to fail).

I've designed an adapter for mounting speakers in the back and using the stock speaker grilles, but I'm not quite happy with the looks of it. Anyone have ideas on how to make this thing look a little better?
I'm also starting to feel like I should have made a thread for this, but I'm here now, so this is what I'm doing.

EDIT: I think I like this a bit more, I also found 8mm that was easy to take out of the height.

At first glance, I thought this was an AR barrel nut. What's the print time like? Solid fill? Do you need the depth for the rear speakers? There's quite a bit of room behind the middle mat... maybe the gas tank filler tube is in the way? If not, you can make it quite a bit thinner.

The depth is to both clear the existing hole in the panel, which is too small for a 6.5 inch speaker, and to ensure enough space to mount the grille. Combined together, you're looking at 28mm of depth, or just over an inch and an eighth.
As far as print time goes, it's claiming 15 hours, and you need a larger printer for it. I wouldn't bother with solid infill, 10% should be plenty. You shouldn't be cranking down on self-tappers, after all.

@retepsnikrep, do you have an updated STL file for the front panel of the OBDIIC&C cases that you are currently selling? I took a look at the one in the very first post of this thread, but it is a larger, single piece for the entire body of the case minus the back panel. I need to print a new front panel (minus the body) to accommodate my LCD screen.

Thanks!

Picked up my 00 MT last week (and then drove 4400 miles home) and installed a clutch switch using this
Edited the smaller one with a square hole (to fit the switches I had handy) and it worked great. Printed nicely in PETG, and I soldered a few feet of wire on it before I hopped on a plane.

The OEM back speakers use the same exact grille as the front speakers. So you can just get an extra set from a junkyard Insight.

The link is dead for the improved version of the hatch actuator, does anyone happen to have that file? I have a friend that's willing to print a bunch of them.

Found this dash mount for a ProClip phone mount, which turns out to use the standard AMPS hole pattern, and made a quick and dirty 17mm ball adapter to stick on there. Worked perfectly in ABS, and an iOttie phone mount grips really nicely and adjusts easily. No bounce on the road at all.

Thingiverse thing with my unimpressive model added.
