I recently drove my 2000 Insight on a 8k mile trip in three weeks. Itinerary was: Akron OH, Yellowknife NT, Seattle WA, Akron OH. The trip back included a ride to the top of Pike's Peak. During the trip, I kept accurate records, which follow fyi:

Discrepancy

The difference works out to about 2.6%. I was a bit surprised that the difference wasn't more. The displayed MPG was from door to door, and the calculated MPG was from first to last fill-up, so there was a little difference there.
