This morning I went to the gas station to see if it was still there. Hadn't stopped by there in awhile anyway. On the way, though, I saw another Insight going the other way. Tried to wave, of course, but my caffeine-deprived morning reflexes didn't quite get that far! It was blue (model year unknown) and it was passing through Devens MA on the way to route 2.

Was it anyone here on the forums?

Hi Redbug,
It wasn't me, too far south and citrus color, but I understand the excitement of sighting another Insight. :) Maybe it's the warmer weather and the prospect of lean burn, but more do seem to be out and about...saw a blue about a month ago and a red just a few weeks ago.

BTW, congrats on your 06...that's pretty rare and very cool!

Regards,

A couple of weeks ago one morning, a guy I work with called me on my cell phone and asked where I was. I said I was on my commute to work, about 5 minutes away. He said "you are not, you're behind me". I laughed and said I really wasn't. He said it looks like your car and he is about to get on 85 towards Charlotte, NC, so I was about 1/4 mile away from that exit and caught up to it. I had never seen another citrus one before now, and pulling up beside it was like looking in a mirror (he did have a blue stripe thing on his, however. We waved and I had to get off at the next exit to get to work. It was very cool.
There are 2 of them in the Spartanburg, SC area besides mine, a silver one I see from time to time, and a blue one I see a lot. It must stay in or near my neighborhood because of how much I see it. It seems they are always going the opposite direction though.

However, how many Insighters, while getting gas, have seen another Insight at a gas station (getting gas)? And moderators, pull out your scissors because this is off topic and will probably get snipped  , but CONGRATS TO THE GATORS!!!

i passed another insighter several months ago going through a toll booth on the nj turnpike... we waved and went on our way- him @ 55 and me @ 70

about 10 miles later i got off on my exit and noticed that my friend who was supposed to be following me was no longer there... i popped out my phone and asked where he was... he thought he was right behind me and was wondering why i slowed down so much.

it wasn't me.

Maybe it's because I live in SoCal, but I see other Insights several times a week. There are two silver Insights that traverse the 91 Freeway West in the morning (both have car-pool-lane stickers, I don't!), one driven by a man, and the other a woman, at approx. the same commute time.

On my commute home, I've seen the silver driven by the male a couple of times, but never the woman (on the way East). Neither wave, no acknowledgement of any kind. Guess they're just not as excited about their Insights as I am about mine!

I see a blue one now and again, usually on the 405, and the only Citrus Insight I've seen was parked in San Clemente, no one around. Oh, and I saw a blue one on the climb (backside) to Torrie Pines (I was on my bike though), and a blue on on the Embarcadero in Morrow Bay last weekend (on my bicycle again, however, so they had no way of knowing I was an Insight owner).

For every Insight I see, there are about a zillion Prius (or so it seems). And who can tell a Civic Hybird unless you're right behind them on the freeway? Too stealth to make a statement!

Sputnik, was there any time this winter when you would have wanted snow tires on your Insight? And do you go through New England winters on the stock tires?

BTW, too cute for words ~ matching silver Insights! :)

I live in Southern California like you do, and drive a Civic Hybrid. I see lots of the 1st Gen hybrids around, though I have only seen a few of the 2nd gen (2006) models. The telltale sign for spotting Civic hybrids from a distance is the fact that they have antennas in the middle of the roof, rather than built into the rear-glass (so they don't pick up RF interference from the battery pack controller).

Hi Redbug,
Well, right now we are quite far south of Massachusetts, although we did live there for a 4-year period in the early 90s. Tornados and high summer temperatures- tough on batteries- are more typical weather problems down south than is ice (but we get that plus hail at times).

Skimming other posts, it seems that snow tires are often recommended in snowy conditions as a safety & handling feature. The small, nimble, low resistance rolling Potenzas contribute to high MPG but do not offer much traction. Lots of info from contributors who know more than I do via the Search option.

Congrats again on your cool 06. Happy motoring! :D

In the past 8 months I have seen:
1-silver Insight on NJ Turnpike, Driver, young male 20-30yo
1-2006 silver insight in parking lot of market, Conshohocken, PA
1-silver older model Insight in December at Valley Forge park, missing wheel covers
1-silver 2002 insight at Valley Forge park last week, chatted with the guy for a while, his Insight was heading to the junk yard because after some DIY wiring, he set his car on fire

So, we are driving from PA to VA this weekend- if you see a lil blue 2006, that would be me 8)
Today will be the first time I ever get gas :!:

Hi Redbug,

I often pass through Devens on the return from Route 2 (good hypermiling terrain toward my home base in that direction).
However, it wasn't me that you saw, as "Sputnik" is silver colored.

The only other Insight in my home town is blue, and the only other blue one I've ever seen in this area passed me while I was biking through Devens a few years ago. That may have been the one you saw.

As a matter of local interest, there's a guy from Hollis, NH with a red Insight who parks at the Ayer train station. I would have parked next to him, but I was on the bike that time also.

I try to park next to Prii when I see them, as it seems to make some kind of statement to the gas guzzling world. It seems though, that Prius owners generally tend to ignore us, as though the Insight weren't a "real car".

I see quite a few in Colorado Springs. There's a green one used by a computer repair guy that I see frequently, and at least one red one, three blue ones, and a silver one I've seen in the past couple of weeks. And on the Interstate (I25) I see them fairly often...

You have to get your eyes off the instantaneous MPG gauge and look out the window sometimes! :D

There's something to be said about making a statement in a gas-guzzling world. I'm pleased to say that the coworkers are still intrigued about the car and still asking questions about it, even more than a month after purchase.

Two other friends, both of whom are fans of GM V8 products (one drives a Firebird, the other drives a Cadillac) are interested in the Insight too. Gas prices are going to hit a lot of people very hard. I work with a few who spend more than $100 weekly on gas at current prices.

I try to wave to the Prius owners .. there are a lot of them on the road these days. It's good to see energy-efficient cars making a resurgence here in America. :)

I have seen at least 2 other insights in northern nj, but haven't had a chance to wave/make eye contact with either of them.

I have also seen the number of priuses jump dramatically in the last 4 months, now it's not unusual to see 4-6 on my commute each day. I parked next to one at a rest stop this weekend and had my first dorky hybrid owners conversation! the prius owner told me he was in LOVE with the insight but for practicality had to get the prius. poor guy. ;)

Dayum, was coming back from the gas station today and saw the same blue Insight zipping around a corner as we passed. This time I was awake enough to wave :) but he was going too fast to see if there was a return wave.

At least this time I washed the car but good so it didn't look nasty or anything.

Lots of Priuses (Prii?) locally too .. took a drive around Boon Lake this weekend and saw no fewer than 3 of them parked in various driveways.

Too many Prii (Priuses) out there, not enough Insights. My commute from northern Delaware to south Jersey takes 75 minutes, and I see maybe 4 Insights per year! My 2000 red spaceship was the first hybrid in my neighborhood, and I'm pleased to report there are now half-dozen hybrids in my neighborhood--all Prii, of course. Mine is still the only Insight in my area of ~200 households. It is still fun to see another Insight on the road, though. Waaaaay too many SUV trucks still around!
