When you buy a video game system or a computer or just about any other electronic gadget, there are a bunch of accessories that add optional cool features to the base product. Honda could offer this sort of thing for their hybrid cars.
For example, a plug-in factory MIMA system would be pretty cool. And it could be expanded to offer some of the "drive by wire" features that MIMA doesn't have, like "forced no-charging fuel-shutoff coast" or "forced auto stop" or "cruise control" or "hold off assist for hillclimb." I'm thinking of a little game controller kind of thing, or something that plugs into a dedicated place on the dashboard.
That way, "normal" people could just buy their hybrid and drive it, but hypermileage fanatics could pay another, say, $500 and get a set of additional features that give them more control over how it all works...
