Accident Advice

My 2000 Insight was broadsided on the passenger side by a 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Passenger side a mess, but they said it is fixable and no one seriously hurt. My question is, what about the batteries? Has anyone had experience. Should I ask the body shop to pull up the plate and take a look at them, or should I go to my dealer and have them checked? Perhaps it is not necessary at all to check them since they are on the opposite side?

I'd check myself and see if there is any intrusion on the battery and electronics box. It's easy. Open the rear hatch and open the storage box lid. Pull the lining out like you are going to get to your spare tire. In the dead space where the japanese Navigation brain would go on the passenger side there is some more dead space on the far side that goes down the length of the IMA box. So long as the box is not hit it should be fine. If it makes it any easier you can remove the flat little trunk floor piece with two bolts and two plastic pop connectors.

One consideration, when they paint the panels make sure they do not bake the car, this will harm the IMA pack. There's a decal in the drivers side door sill that explains this.
