Accident Advice

My 2000 Insight was broadsided on the passenger side by a 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Passenger side a mess, but they said it is fixable and no one seriously hurt. My question is, what about the batteries? Has anyone had experience. Should I ask the body shop to pull up the plate and take a look at them, or should I go to my dealer and have them checked? Perhaps it is not necessary at all to check them since they are on the opposite side?

Unless the battery compartment was compressed or damaged in some way, I would guess that the batteries are probably OK. But that's just me guessing, without knowing the extent of damage to your poor little Insight.

I would say that body shop employees are not qualified to do an inspection on the battery pack. Nor would I ask them to do it, because of the safety concerns.

If it seems like it should be looked at, call a local Honda dealer and explain what happened and see if they have someone qualified.

Regards,
