Last night my Insight decided to get the instantaneous display stuck on max. (It did this once before, both times when I turned off the engine, but didn't turn the key all the way off) But that's not the point of this message.

The point is, on the way home, with the MPG display at 150, I felt really lost without knowing what my MPG was. I realized that I look at that display maybe even more than the speed! How do normal people drive without knowing their gas consumption?!! :D If every car had this display, I bet average MPG would go up 10 percent.

I know I'm addicted to MPG.

I'm addicted, too!!

I've tried to drive without the mpg display by blocking it it with a business cad. I can only made it about 20 minutes or so before it becomes so annoying that I have to remove it.

Wouldn't surprise me, wouldn't surprise me at all if the "average" MPG went up a lot more than ten percent!

I would have to stop the car & reboot the computer so the Instant MPG Bar works again.

I can't live with not knowing if I'm in lean-burn or rich-burn.

I have been addicted to it in the past, but have since tried to get away from worring about it ALL THE TIME!!! I really need to worry about other things instead of this each and every day.

Yes, my name is Richard and I am addicted to my Insight MPG readout.

I have tried to drive with it turned off . . . But I just CAN'T!

I don't really care how fast I'm going; I just need that MPG!

Seriously, it's like driving a computer (sort of), with a bit of reality video game thrown in. I just live for the next .2 lifetime MPG recalculation.

guaranteed

you put an MPG meter on some of these BIG *** trucks and they would slow down.

I understand the feeling. When explaining the various features of the Insight that contribute to it's ability to get 60+ MPG, I always make a point to include that with the instrumentation, the DRIVER is one of them. You get sucked into realizing what driving habits contribute, and which ones detract from your mileage. Smart of Honda.

Am totally addicted. Already I've missed various exits & turnoffs several times just from paying too much attention to the FCD.

Of course, I'm getting really great mileage for the circumstances (newbie driver, wintertime, hilly New England roads) so somehow it's rewarding. The current tankful is 66.5mpg @ 320mi, and all of it has been local traffic.

Agreed on how everyone else's driving would become a lot nicer if their cars had fuel consumption displays too.

I think Honda has realized just how much this feature is used by enthusiasts and put it in a much more convenient location on the 06 Civic Hybrid. If you look at the dash pictures of the new Civic on the upper tier you have the speedometer in the center, gas gauge on the right and on the left is a temperature gauge. On the hybrid this doubles as the instantaneous FCD! So you don't have to look all the way down to see it!
