Just wondering if this is a crazy idea. Put airbags into the rear coil springs to adjust ride height and load during the snow season.

Sounds like an excellent mod , but I don't see anything for the Insight. Not surprising really. I suppose if someone took measurements of the Insight spring that there would be one the right size. 8)

Those probrably aren't the best example - those are just air bag things to provide more support, used in conjunction with conventional springs.

However, there are real "air springs" available. I don't have any links to them however - I saw them on a "hot rod" television show the other day.

I thought about it in the past. What I think was: There are no bags of the right size and if there where, there is no space for them.

I wish I am wrong and I just did not find the right part.

In the picture I have and that you gave the link, the picture are with no load on the wheel. It is extended to the maximum, only the shocks prevent the extension. When there is the car load, there is not much space between the rubber stopper and the body stub.

I do not know if the rubber cone could be removed. It would be bad it the two parts would touch directly while hitting a bump

Erm, what I'm saying is, the product linked to is like a "poor mans" version of the air shocks that I saw on this hot rod show. The ones I saw replace the existing shocks and coilovers and are allegedly "bolt on." (Except for the pump and controller)
