I have a new red 5-speed Insight on order (it's still sitting in Japan) awaiting shipment. I have a young son who I would like to travel with me on occasion. Has anyone done a "do it yourself" disable switch installation for the passenger airbag?
One thing I read said the dealership might install the option. It may or may not be a law but I think in all 2 passenger vehicles a switch must be installed if you plan on putting somebody under the age of ... in the passenger seat. Most trucks come pre-shipped with a on-off switch but the earlier ones didn't and dealers used to install switches for them. I'd at least call and ask your dealership, tell them it's a danger to your child to ride in this car and ask them if they can install a switch. They may do it under warranty, under federal law, out of niceness or whatever.
