so i was driving to the grocery store and when i pulled into the parking lot i was driving to the back of the lot (so my insight wouldn't be hurt by carts) and after i passed the huge ford explorer i noticed a green insight behind it. so i knew i had to park beside it. i ran in and got what i needed and waited in my car for them to come out. when he came out he noticed my insight and we talked for a bit and exchanged info about our mpg's.

this was a really pointless story, but it was my first time meeting another insight owner, so i was happy. :)

Since I purchaced my insight two weeks ago, I haven't seen another except at honda dealerships.
I've had quite a few people walk up and ask me questions, and I get the
gooseneck by passerbys all the time.
So far, the most popular question is "Where do you plug it in?"
It's no wonder they sell so few of them due to mis-perceptions!

Amplifiedmouse, which dealership did you get your Insight from?
I got mine at Penske in Carmel, which is not far from you.

Yes, I have been waved to, given the "thumbs up" by a few people, and also waved to by a Toyota Prius. A co-worker friend of mine just bought a silver 5sp as well, so we'll have matching Insights in the lot (Im sure that'll be a constant joke.) There is another silver Insight working at Coca-Cola down the road in Parsippany, and Ive seen only a blue one in my travels.

I guess with only 3000 per year made, they're going to be rare to see on the road, but I love mine nonetheless!

I enjoy meeting other Insight owners, and will always give them a wave. All the Prius owners I see in my area are elderly and don't seem to notice me waving, so I've given up on them.

The info cards on the main site have been real helpful for me in dealing with people's questions. I print out a set of the double-sided cards and go through about 10 of them in a month... sometimes people are worried I'm trying to sell them something when I hand them the card though

I saw a new (meaning I had never seen them before) silver Insight in San Diego yesterday. I was in my parents van pulling the family around, and the Insight came up on the left, so I let them come up, and when i looked over, it was some older people dressed in mardis gras type costumes!
very scary. then my brother said "they kinda look like men!"

my exit was next *phew*

also, I've noticed that EVERY Prius I've seen (more than 20 probably) are *all* older drivers
not that I have a problem with the elderly, but they never look at me when I want to race them! :D

I see lots of Prius on the road in this area, and they are always going way faster than me.

You too huh?

I haven't actually met another owner in person but have driven by some. The other day I was heading back from SF and pulled up next to another Silver Insight near the Golden Gate Bridge, we kept up with each other (not racing of course  ) till he exited in Marin.

I think Tim Maddux's matter-of-factness about old people being oblivious to the world is hilarious.
They must be the same whereever you go...kinda scary really..

I see very few in the Central Valley, but two miles down the road after picking up ours last week, we saw one turn down the street. We both laughed. They didn't see us, but we thought it funny.

Most people just don't care. There are numerous hybrids spread around the Phoenix area so I see them from time to time. There are two others (used to be three) that park in the same huge parking lot at ASU where I go to school, one's sebring silver and the other's red like mine. I came out one day and found the other red one parked next to mine. A note on her window was followed by an email, I also ran in to her one day while parking and had some conversing over our cars. I haven't met the guy who has the silver one but I heard he was a punk. And there is a new Red one that showed up in one of the faculty parking lots. ASU is at least 4 Insight's strong though there may be more in the numerous parking garages.

Lets see, saw a silver one on the road while comming home today, old guy, wouldn't look over, I sped up to get in his view and then hit my brakes slightly hoping he'd notice it, nothing. A few weeks before that I turned at an intersection and had a blue one fly by me as I was accelerating. I sped up to get next to it, some woman glued to her cell phone who wouldn't even give a glance upon repeated attempts. Some of these people need to have their cars reposessed.

As far as Prius's, I usually will see one every week or two on my commute across town to school. Of course naturally I make every attempt possible to pass them at full motor assist.

But the best Insight accidental meeting was at the Arizona Mill's mall. I was driving around the mall's outer circle trying to figure out which entrance was closest to the stores I needed to go to and out of the corner of my eye I noticed another Red Insight parked there way out at the end of the parking lot away from all other cars. Of course I knew where I was parking. As I got out of the car I noticed a woman in her SUV galking as she drove by. Well, I wasn't about to wait around till the guy came out or anything, I just figured I'd let him see my car was next to his end of story. Well, I did my shopping and came back out to find him sitting in his car. I walked up, put my clothes in the back of my car, got in rolled down the windows, he got off his phone, and I said "nice car"

Well it went from there, we exchanged mileage figures and such. To make a long story short we now email eachother from time to time. I followed him out of the mall for a bit, hehe.

Had a simialr experience. I went in to my college's registration area with my fiancee as she had to drop a class and it was about evening, close to closing time, and when we came out, parked 2 cars down from mine was a dark blue insight. My fiancee didn't even notice it until I pointed it out. First insight I've seen in Boca other than the dealerships. I went back into the registration office but there were only a few people around and I'd feet awkward asking everybody if it was theres, so I didn't. My fiancee was rushing me and didn't care too much that I'd actually encountered another insight. I did a quick walk around before I left, it appeared older/more used than mine, maybe a 00' or '01 or something. That means to them I'm the new guy in town w/ one, hehe. I think I want to keep a few cards in my car that say something like "Join InsightCentral.net, I'm in the forum's username glitch" or something to that effect.

As far as I know, there is only one other Insight in London. Interestingly, this person works or lives about 2 blocks from where I work, so I see it fairly often. I have been told the owner is female, but I have not yet met her. People always confuse the two of us as we both have long black hair and both drive silver Insights. I just tell them "you can always tell me because my rear wheel skirts are not attached in such a sloppy way". :) Have not seen any Prius' as of yet.

I saw a red Insight on the road about 3 months ago and I didn't even realize it was an Insight at first.

In the last two weeks I have seen a silver Insight driving around where I live. I haven't had a chance to meet the owner yet because it's always going the other way or turning a corner.

I was on vacation in west virginia (used my fiancee's '99 beetle) but I saw a yellow insight in charleston, wv. Down by where they call quarter G which is more accurately known on the maps as "Corridor G". There was an elderly gentleman behind the wheel. Was that anybody here? Was anybody here in Corridor G in Charleston, WV around the super walmart at the beginning of this June, when they had that huge power outtage.

It interested me because WV has a lot of very harsh driving conditions, Constant hills, up and down, steep mountain climbs, off road terrain, etc. it's gotta be a very tough place on your car. I wondered how that insight handled that kind of terrain.

I got mine at Penske in Carmel as well. October of last year. They are not common on the North side of Indy - its SUV country dontcha know.

There's a girl with a 2000 Citrus who lives just down the road from where I used to live - I've talked with her quite a bit, swapped amusing comments and the like. The building where I work is currently under construction, and one of the construction workers has a 2002 Monte Carlo Blue Pearl like mine, though his is a CVT and mine is an '03 5sp. He totally does not fit the stereotype of what you'd expect a hybrid owner to be like. Though he is weird in his own way. ;^)

Other than those two, I see another Insight in the greater Indianapolis area maybe once or twice a month.
