Hello all, I've been lurking for awhile reading most of the information about looking for a used insight. I have one general question that I haven't been able to find an answer to so far. That is, is there any significant differences between the earlier models(2000,01) and the later models(02,03,04). I ask because in the past I've never bought a first generation car. Especially one as innovative as the insight. But from what I can tell there isn't that much difference between the older and newer insights. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
john

Hi topher and welcome to the forum. :)

No major "design" differences like engines, body panels, MPG or the like. IIRC the EPA highway "rating" was downgraded. But if you've read much in here you can blow the top off that number. :D

However, late 02 models _may_ have and all 03's and up do have the newer MCM & BCM's factory installed. Older moldels _may_ have had them installed as a repair. Somewhere around a 3k$ retail value.

See S.B. 04-028 referenced here:

There are interior color scheme differences. And sound system improvements (03^ :?: ) , but still not audiophile quality. And probably a few other of the same caliber.

HTH! :)

In all fairness I should metion with the "Worst Fear has come true" thread I had originally thought my 02 had the newer BCM and MCM, when really I was near the cut off VIN number wise for the older ones. I won't be keeping the Insight long enough to know for sure if the new control modules make a difference or not, but aside from taking their sweet time to get the parts, Honda covered everything without question once my IMA light came on.
