...on where I might pick up a used Insight in Southern Cal? Considering the gas mileage I'd be getting on the way home, I'd be willing to take a day/weekend trip for the right car (AZ, NV...). Looking for a clean one (kind of a neat freak) at a reasonable price with some of the 8/80k warranty remaining for a little piece of mind. (I know...not asking for much am I.)

Trust me...I've been, and continue, checking all the usual online places (Craig's List, Cars.com, Autotrader..etc, etc, etc). I'm just hoping someone out there might be considering/have done an upgrade recently and is willing to part with their current ride.

Figured just because I'm in the military protecting one's right to drive a gas guzzling SUV...the reason we're over there...doesn't mean I have to contribute to that reason.

Thanks in advance for any help...

If you're not already doing it, keep an eye on eBay. It's not unusual for three or four Insights to be available for sale ... and one or two at any pint in time appear to be worth looking into; i.e., less than 50K miles on the car!

Hope this helps ... and best of luck on your search for a nice little car!

Midori,

That's the same reason I bought my 2000 Insight back in 2004. Hauling tanker trucks of fuel in a warzone makes you appreciate fuel-efficient vehicles. I wish military vehicles got 70 MPG. My job would have been a whole lot easier!!!

You won't regret buying an Insight, especially for your reason. (I have an Indiana veteran license plate on mine, along with "70 MPG" in silver letters I bought at a Hobby Lobby craft store on the back left corner of the tinited window area were it says "hybrid.") Hopefully, the public makes the connection. Thanks for your service and good luck with your search! I hope u join the Insight Family soon.

Good news hopefully....

Just got off the phone with 'Doug'. Flying up the coast tomorrow to check out a Silver 2003 CVT for 11,500! Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to refund the return ticket and enjoy a nice drive home... Maybe I'll be able to join Bill and company on Sunday at Balboa Park for the Earth Day events...(without being so envious ;). Thank you to all who commented, hopefully we can close this thread out tomorrow. ':D'

And the search continues...

Well...had a nice day trip, but ended up making the flight back vice the nice drive I was hoping for(':('). It was a nice car, but with 104K miles on it, I just couldn't do it. It was my first time driving a CVT though, I kind of liked it, and it would be much easier teaching my wife to drive (though the manual isn't difficult in my opinion). With the Earth Day events here tomorrow, maybe I'll get lucky...that financing check is burning a hole in my pocket (guess that could also be the credit card after filling up the truck--$52--my record high).

There are a bunch on ebay, I would try there. And keep checking this forum's sale page. Good luck.

The search...

is OVER! Woo-hoo! I am the proud new owner of a beautiful 2002, 5-spd, Sebring Silver Insight courtesy of SteveO and InsightCentral.net (yes, we followed the buy/sell rules). Many thanks to both and to the others who posted their suggestions and pm's.

Now that the hard part is over, it's time to have some fun and start personalizing. Here's my wish list in no particular order, feel free to suggest any must-have items I might have overlooked (though I think I found a similar thread for that a while back).
1. Exhaust. Haven't made it through all the pages of that particular thread...Jackmpg, are you making them or do I just need to take the specs to a local exhaust shop?
2. Window Tint (have to keep the pooch cool in the back)
3. Speakers and Honda aux input adapter for stock head unit (maybe a simple new head unit--all I want is the aux input for the iPod and a radio).
4. New tires
5. Wet Okole seat covers
6. Cruise (eventually)
7. Scangauge
8. Suspension (shocks)
9. Clear Bra (got a good idea from SteveO, use a couple scrap pieces of the clear bra material to use as a buffer for the CA HOV stickers so you can peel them off later without worrying about the paint).
10. 12v Battery
11. Armrest
12. Dog seat belt for the back

Okay, guess that list will keep me busy for a while. Again, thanks for your help. Now I can look forward to the road trips again :D.
