I've been having a problem for the last couple of months: As often as a couple of times a week, I'll be driving along and see the battery has almost totally discharged, or I'll see it discharging down to the minimum. It then recharges over a period of a few miles. I have seen this previously in the 2 1/2 years I've owned this 2000 model, but maybe once in 2 months. What goes on here?

ALSO--is there a requirement for a timing belt replacement on this engine?

This is a recal. If you search the forum, you will find an equivalent of a day's worth of readings on it. It will start happening more often as your hybrid battery starts to age. Here is the link to another thread on the issue that just started the other day:
