Here's an odd one for you: my 2001 Insight had to be trailered to its MOT because the lead acid battery had died and the bonnet latch had jammed, preventing me from trickle charging the 12V battery. I pulled the bonnet release lever, which was very stiff, then pulled it even harder, and suddenly it wasn't stiff anymore, but the bonnet hadn't popped up either. The Honda dealership has just told me that - after trying and failing to get the bonnet open themselves - I'll need a replacement bonnet latch cable, which won't arrive until the end of January.

Does anyone happen know of any UK Mk1 Insights being broken for parts that still has this component available?

I assume you have looked on e-bay and included finished items search?
Ditto on here for UK breakers there have been a few threads..

I might have access to one but not for at least ten days and then i would have to drive 100 miles to remove it from a car so that would be an extra £50 on the price for a start.

Ditto on here for UK breakers there have been a few threads..

I might have access to one but not for at least ten days and then i would have to drive 100 miles to remove it from a car so that would be an extra £50 on the price for a start.
Thanks Peter. I've not checked eBay yet but thought that the best place to start would be this forum (I've been out of the Insight game for a while since my LEAF has proven to be far more versatile than expected).

Many thanks for the kind offer to source a replacement cable, but I wouldn't want you going 100 miles out of your way to remove a component from a car for me!

Can't you trickle charge through the cig lighter? Or from the interior fuse box? Or the OBD2 connector?
Thanks Atikovi, good spot; that's about 1/10th of the price that Honda are asking for a new one!

Good point about charging via the cig lighter etc. The car is out of my hands for now but when I phone the garage to tell them that I'll be sourcing my own cable, I'll ask them if they can give that a go. I gave the traction battery a top-up using the grid charger than Peter installed, and was surprised that the car didn't charge the 12 V battery off the traction battery using a DC-DC converter. My 106 Electric did that automatically when its 12V battery died a few years ago...

First click is acc. position. That would probably work for charging.

To replace the release cable it requires removal of front fender.

To remove the front fender, it requires the removal of the front bumper, headlamp, skirt on the appropriate side and the rocker moulding.

That'll explain the £260 quoted repair cost :(

I phoned the garage this morning to tell them about the 2nd hand bonnet release cable on eBay. However, Honda only charge about £50 for a new one, so once shipping from the US is factored in for the 2nd hand cable, I'm just as well going for a new one anyway. The vast majority of the repair cost is labour, which is completely understandable; I have neither the time nor the workshop facilities to be able to undertake the repair myself.

Make sure you are pulling the hood release down and out all the way- mine was getting hung up on the dash until I pulled down and out at same time.The plastic piece should stick out past the dash face when out all the way not flush — maybe a inch or so you should see when looking down at it when sitting
