Does anyone know if the State of California offers up to a $1,000 tax deduction for purchasing the Honda Insight. I found this clause below on a government website. http://www.fleets.doe.gov/fleet_tool.cgi?$$,benefits,1. If so, how would one claim it on their taxes? :)

State Incentives
The CEC, along with participating Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), is implementing the Efficient Vehicle Incentive Program. Participating OEMs offer incentives to consumers and fleet operators on a first-come-first-served basis at the time of purchase or lease of a vehicle. Eight models are currently eligible for these incentives: up to $1,000 for the Honda hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV), and up to $3,000 for dedicated natural gas vehicles including the Ford Crown Victoria, Ford F-150 pick-up, Ford compressed natural gas (CNG) vans, and the Honda Civic GX. Vehicles must be purchased or leased between February 8, 2002 and March 1, 2004. Fleets covered by the Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct) are not eligible for these incentives. For more information, please contact Irene Salazar of the CEC at (916) 657-4046, or via email at [email protected], or visit the Web site at http://www.consumerenergycenter.com.

I believe this incentive has ended (and it was very poorly advertised). The way it worked was that each dealer was able to offer this to a certain number of people on a first-come first-served basis. The sale price would then reflect the discount.
