Hey Folks,

I'm new to here. Last night some thieves stole the Cat from underneath my UK Gen 1 MT insight. my neighbours spotten them and knocked on the door, but they legged it in a car before i could see!! They've cut from the manifold to just before the first silencer on the exhaust. Being in the UK, these parts are only available new from Honda to the tune of £2100 or perhaps someone on here has the following parts or knows of a scrapper laying about?

I need:

1. Rear exhaust section
2. Lower O2 sensor
3. catalytic converter.

I also need advice on valuation. Before i ring my insurance company I wanted to know what the rough value should be for a 2001 Uk insight with 225k and a brand new battery from honda in 2012. Any ideas?

I put an old $59 2way CAT on the 1998 Buick when the cat and mounts rusted and fell off.

it’s hard tofindthem now days but no need for oem

Interesting, but it's not a 1998 Buick. Has anyone actually managed to use a cat off another car without it throwing any codes?

I believe the 2000 and 2001 did not have a 3rd O2 sensor, so that second catalyst could be removed entirely without a CEL.

EDIT: Our cars have two catalysts. If I recall, the upstream is a normal catalyst and the downstream is a NOx trap.

Does a UK insight have a Cat at all? I thought Japanese/UK, right hand drive cars didn’t have them. If they stole something did they only get the resonator?

UK MANUAL LB cars have the same underbody CAT as US cars and two sensors.
The long CAT has what appears to be three sections.

My JDM LB CVT has a smaller cat? and no post cat sensor.
The shorter CAT? has what appears to be two sections.

No UK or JDM cars have that big fat bleb CAT US cars have just behind the head in the downpipe.

No UK or JDM cars have more than two O2 sensors.

Lets look at the part diagrams for a UK (manual trans) Insight:

Buyer beware: The exhaust that hh442 posted above, will not work in a UK MT Insight. The lower cat (pictured) does not have a bung in it for an O2 sensor. It's also too short. It would be foolish indeed to buy it and try to fit it to a UK Insight.

Lastly this is also assuming that the US lower catalytic performs the same function as the single catalytic found in UK/JDM Insights. Which may not even be true. The UK part number for the catalytic does not match anything found on US Insights.

Pictured above are two USDM Insight lower catalytic converters. The shorter one fits a 2000-2001 5MT Insight with a manual as well as 2001-2006 Insight's with a CVT. The above listed vehicles have two O2 sensors only; one before, and one after the upper catalytic converter.

The longer cat one fits a 2002-2006 USDM 5MT Insights and it has a bung for an O2 sensor.

The catalytic converter in UK and JDM insights resembles the longer catalytic converter pictured above.
