Hello,

My car has around 90K on it, been smooth riding since i bought it at 60K, now its finally giving me an error.

The code is P2646, from the research I've done, it seems to be that the pressure switch (37240-PHM-003) needs to be changed, or it needs to have more oil(not really sure which oil, but I just took it in to the dealer to get an oil change).

I currently have the switch on order right now, and I did manage to clear the error using my OBD scanner... But if i were to rev over 4K rpm, the same error comes back on, along with some jerking motion (kinda scary driving at high speed).

This car is my only mean of transportation, so today, I took it for a drive to work like usual driving under 4K, nothing showed until 50 miles later, the "maintenance require" light turns on.

My theory is that the oil is low or need a change since last time i took it to the dealer, they told me I need some fluid change, but it were going to cost me $200-300 to do it.

So my question is... What is the real problem? How do i check my transmission fluid? (I only see brake fluid, radiator, orange dip stick (I think it's the engine oil), and another dip stick (No label).

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

VTEC system

I drove a 2006 Honda Accord for approx. 9 months last year. At the start of this, I put in Mobil 1 motor oil. Near the end of this, I put in Mobil 1 motor oil.

Mobil 1 motor oil does not cause sludge. Mobil 1 seems unlikely to cause a drop in oil pressure. If the engine had been run previously for 60000 miles like the Accord or 90,000 like your Insight, there might have been some sludge developed.

During a long trip with the Accord, I got a P2647 rocker arm actuator a bank 1 check engine light. This caused extreme driveability problems above 4,000 rpm.

I think that P2646 and P2647 are in the same category. Youtube groups them.

Calling one dealer, my P2647 might have been an oil pressure switch. My brother got it fixed. It was the VTEC Spool Valve. The price was $262.00.

I believe that Mobil 1 had something to do with the problem occurring when it occurred. Better oil flow could have dislodged some sludge. Better oil flow in one segment of the engine could cause a pressure gradient across some "oil pressure switch".

The VTEC system depends on oil pressure to advance the camshaft at higher RPM's. I don't claim to understand much about the VTEC system.

Honda won't have any problem fixing this for you. I recommend Mobil 1. The Honda full synthetic is probably just as good, but it is probably more expensive.

^Dirty Vtec oil screen/screens in the 'spool valve' is the first thing that came to my mind... The P2646 code in my list reads "VTEC Oil Pressure Switch Circuit Low Voltage."

When you took it to Honda, what did they say was the actual problem?

Did you fix pressure switch and change oil? or just pressure switch?

fyi, here's a link to another thread about cleaning the vtec filter screen:
http://www.insightcentral.net/forum...discussion/26044-check-your-vtech-filter.html

Also, I was looking around a bit and saw a youtube video of some guy with a 2006 Accord - who got a P2646, described problems similar to yours OP, and said cleaning the VTEC filter fixed it... Wasn't worth posting a link to the video. But I'd say it's worth looking into, checking your VTEC screen. Easy and free thing to do...
