unless it is an early first gen in which case it is in the passenger foot well by the center consoleabove your right knee under the dash

It's in front of about mid-shin for me.
OBD2 standards (US market 1996+) require it to be within a few inches of either side under the steering column.unless it is an early first gen in which case it is in the passenger foot well by the center console
Follow the edge of the lower dash panel to where it meets the center console, it's just above that.
Mine is on the left side of the passenger footwell.
