I have had my 2000 Insight for 4 months. It has only 60k miles on it. In that time I have replaced both 02 sensors front and back, spark plugs, IMA Motor (o2 and IMA battery covered by Honda)...Now I have to replace front brakes and rotors, CV joint and boots, and have an Oil Leak. ALL UNDER 60k miles!!!. Has anyone else had sooo many issues with so few miles? and if so, how was it dealt with? I love the car, but I cannot afford the constant repairs. thanks in advance to any responders.

Repair Blues of 2000 Insight

Your ownership so far has left you with the "repair blues".Your repairs so far appear like the shop has helped themself to you wallet, and seam a little much for the year/mileage.

Any used car needs to be looked at carefully before purchase, because "why did the previous owner bail out of the car and take a loss, rather than attend to the required repairs".

Everyone rides along on used parts, maintanence is the key to keep cost of ownership down. Can you list in more detail, what happened to cause you to go to the repair shop, and what was done and why,by the shop. This will help us all, decide if your repairs were needed.

You might want to exaimine the 100K plus mile owners. I have 140K and have only had 2 problems. Low beam lights died which was fixed under a reall and the intermittent wiper relay doesn't work right. (I haven't fixed that although I tired replacing the relay but don't find it much of a problem). I guess I should mention that I replaced some under body pannels but that was due to me driving over a large tire in the road and not the cars fault. I think the insight is a very reliable car however there are certainly a few that have had lemmons in regards to repair history. Don't know if this is due to prior driving or just a poor vehicle. Have fun , Rick

I'd say your experience is not typical of well cared for high-milage Insights. FWIW, I did a lot of research on the Insight before I scored one off Ebay a few months ago. Mine was still inder warranty when I got it and so far has only required a small bit of maintenance, fresh tires and some "prior owner" removal. ;-)

Although I have a lot of automotive technician experience, I was leery of getting into this technology. I wanted to get a new one, but could only find a few in th country, and all of those were going to sell at an over sticker premium. (No thanks!) However, my research and checking out the various Insight forums confirmed that the Insight is typically very Honda-like in terms of quality and relaibility, making used a safe bet. Unfortunately, not every car is fault-free, and sometimes previous owners abuse or neglects cars to the point things start to fail. I can't explain all the issues you've had, but can say this is not the norm.
