Putting aside safety issues momentarily, has any ever considered or tried to parallel two IMA batteries? I don't know if the charge controls are counting KWH or just measuring voltage. I know it's not typical to parallel NiMh batteries, perhaps some sort of charge balancing would be necessary. Why do this anyway? A few good hills and the current battery is flat. For anyone that knows NE, the climb from I-91 at the Mass pike to the top going west totally empties the battery.

That has been done, but going LTO would triple your capacity for only a small weight addition (I think <5 pounds extra) versus +70 pounds to only double your capacity.

Also, you can install a clutch switch to stop wasting the IMA battery on long hills if you have a 2000-2003 Insight.

Yes it has been considered several times and discussed on here.

The charge controls measure tap voltages, counted kwh/Ah and instant current and temperature.

LTO is a much better bet nowadays..
