I read the surging thread, but my issue is slightly different.
it feels like my car is lugging at low speeds.
It's also similar that occasionally, when I accellerate on the highway, it sometimes gets "stuck" at 3.5 rpm, even if I take my foot off the gas.
I wondered if it was the EGR valve--I went back and looked at the herky jerky thread, but it seems like it was mostly manuals.

Help!
(and please don't say transmission, because I will cry. reallly. I have no money to fix that.  )

My 2001 CVT had the same issue and my EGR valve was replaced under warranty. The surging stopped after the repair. Now my car is outside of the warranty so when it happens again I will have to try cleaning the EGR valve.

crud! my warrantee just expired. Figures!
well, at least I have something specific to say when i take it into the shop.
I know my limitations--fixing the valve is beyond me.

I can do oil changes and such, but that's about all I trust myself with :)

BTW, for those of you with a Meijers nearby, they are having a sale on 0W 20 Mobil oil--$4/quart. (down from $4.80!)

Well,

Since you've now taken the first step (gnawing off those long fingernails) <g>) your now ready to wrench.

And it makes cleaning the grease and grime out from under them easier too :!: <VBG>

OMG

well, my dream car is now a nightmare.
after finally managing to find the EGR valve (at first they told me my 2001 CVT didn't have one!!!!) and disconnecting it, they didn't see any difference in the way the car drove.
so, it looks like transmission :( :(

Since not everyone may see this, i'll ask this question elsewhere--i am rather suspicious about their first not finding the EGR valve, and then saying you can disconnect it and still drive the car.
hmm.[/list]

I would definately find another dealer.
Ask the other insighters in your area for a decent dealer, if they will respond.
If they had disconnected the EGR valve, you would definately get a MIL light, did they?
Lucky they didn't ask "whats an Insight".

Good luck.

I am really offended by the locking and public smackdown of the other thread. to me, CVT lugging, and the disconnection of a valve, are totally different topics. If I really "spend too much time on the forum" and I'm such a time waster, you could at least have the courtesy to PM me and tell me to shut up.

I'm looking at being bankrupted, and you guys are busy having a power trip.

thanks for all the fish.

Didn't require a PM. It did require a more personable tone. Please read on...

It was posted "publicly" as a notice to all members. Nor was the subject technically locked. It was *redirected* to keep the information complete for all members to be able to benefit, rather than having fragments scattered here and there. There is no BBcode merge feature. AFAIK its a limitation of the database's structure.

The subject is still open for discussion. And while I understand your frustration with a looming repair expense if you didn't understand the difference between a plain lock and a redirect then you could have PM'd rather than rant.

The reference of spending too much time on a forum was of *me*. I was _trying_ to diffuse some of the possible angst that might be perceived with something the can appear to be superficially "picky". I would hope that with a bit of reflection all members would see the benefit of not fragmenting their threads. Multiposting is a very early (read: old) Internet message board concept. And you can tell by the rather short replies of such infractions those of us who spend too much time in here (reflection of me again).

To keep Insight Central the kind of place that you can come to for great advice in regard to all Insight issues is not an easy task. I've read _EVERY_ post in here all 29,383 of them :!: My pay, a little star by my name. My only satisfaction is when I learn something of value here or give someone else the same. That's *MY* power trip. And I've so far lost a lot of it on this thread, but that's my own personal issue.

Agreed that my reply in the locked thread should have been more personable. Please accept my public apology for any offense taken, none was meant. My foil beenie protector slipped and they almost got to me with one of those mind control rays...

Now if you'd like some _free_ assistance with diagnosis and how to navigate Honda's warranty system let's get back on topic. :D

HTH! :)
