Hey Everyone, I'm back after a long break and just got to wiring in the AEM FIC 6 into my turbo insight. I know quite a few people around here have used this piggyback controller, but a quick glance of past posts seems to indicate that controlling ignition retard with this has been difficult. Currently my issue is I can start the car, but I cannot rev past around 3000rpm. Ive checked the wiring and verified that the car works normally with the FIC 6 bypassed. Also of interest is the tachometer on the FIC 6 software flashes red right around the time the car fritzes out indicating that maybe the fic6 has lost sync with the cam and crank sensors. I am also getting a P0366 error indicating a bad crank sensor (makes sense).
Has anyone managed to get the FIC6 to work in retarding the ignition timing? If other people are having the same problem lets try and diagnose them here.
You need to add resistors, and I'm not sure you retard the crank...only the cam signals(again,I think, I'm not 100% sure). I'm running this exact piggyback on my turbo insight. I have a boomslang harness so I'm not 100% sure what they did.
PS: Let me know if you run into issues between 91 and 100KPA, for some reason the cars leans out super hard and it's been an issue since I put it in the car, and I haven't been able to figure out why.
They make a premade harness specifically for the Insight? I'm very curious what has been tapped into. Right now I have my own that I've put together from the Honda wiring diagrams, and the FIC user manual. They say to tap into the Cam and Crank signals.
Have you ever done any verification that your setup can retard the ignition timing? I'd love to be able to put a timing light on it if you're not certain in how its wired.
Currently I have a few theories as to why the timing is funny, but those go out the window if your setup is able to retard ignition timing as advertised.
I have one of these and yet to install and put my turbo on. Was also wondering di you think using the nitrous map and control that hho could be added. Be able to reduce the timing, fool the o2 sensor and deliver the hho through an aditional fuel injector in the intake piping pwm like a nitrous solenoid would be. I want boost for some more poser with my ima hacks and lithium and hho for cruise as i do 62 miles each way to work on the highway at 80mph.
52mpg very spirited driving

I wasnt planning on onboard production of hho. That is bs. Ive been producing it at home with solar and my old insight battery packs. It goes into weather baloons and a dive compressor siphons from the weather baloon and fills composite nitrous bottles. One with oxygen from one side if the hho cell and hydrogen from the other side. I run my lawnmowers and generators on it with a propane carb and reduced engine timing. So i see it as an additional fuel source when being added to the car. As long as the cell isnt on the car drawing power its not costing any economy.
But yes ive thought about water or methanol injection even on it n/a if there were an improvement durring cruise. I do a 62 mile commute all highway to work and at 80mph. Trying to get better than 52mpg
Well you got me at a loss on that one then. However I can tell you that turbo+lithium+40% back really makes an insight a different car to drive. I absolutely love mine.
Thats what im after. Ive got the lto already just need to install turbo. I sold my gt1241 thinking it was too small on the exhaust side. Im looking at the ihi rhf4 vf33 from a subaru. Its the primary turbo and does very well on 900cc to 1500cc engines. And its dual ball bearing.
Bump on the model number and firmware version of your guys FIC. Still trying to get the ignition retard function to work, and I'm thinking it may be the firmware or the model I have. If you guys could update me with what you have that works it would be much appreciated.
