Great article I stumbled upon... my apologies if this has already been posted:

A friend of mine just picked up a 2006 Insight the other day, and was very pleased with his 79.5 gas mileage driving home to LA from Lancaster. (Of course, he got a manual transmission). Yay for the Insight!! :D

Don't let him get disappointed if his mileage drops around town, Lancaster to LA is mostly downhill!

And what a hill! I was averaging over 60mpg with my CVT when I was commuting on that route just because so little gas is used on the trip "down below" 8)

There are several interesting misconceptions in the comments following the article. Someone said the Insight is 100% electric with no emissions!!! The person who claimed that the Insight is "dirty" seems to be on another planet (using the website in the previous post as a guide). And the advantage of a hybrid is not limited to city driving - at least not according to my experience.

Hey Sean, I talked to him last night... he said he has done 300 miles now, so far averaging about 62 mpg... he knows the 79.5 mpg was just circumstantial, but it still brought a smile to his face! :D

I read this and was like, "Hey I just bought MY Insight in Lancaster a few days ago...what a coincidence!" Then I figured out who this is...and you were talking about mine! :)

Yeah, I always throw in the disclaimer about the downhill part...it didn't take much to get 79+ mpg on that trip! I'm up over 500 miles now and I'm still over 60 MPG with a small amount of effort...and getting a little better every day.

By the way, which side of the car is the gas cap on?

Cap'n. . .
