Does anyone know where you can get the metal protectors for the driver's footrest carpet?

They are featured on this site under Knowledge Base, Purchasing and Warranty Information, Accessories, Favourite Non-Honda Accesories.

They are made by Sandusky Bay Metals, and there is a link to that company, but it doesn't work and I can't find it elsewhere on the net.

Thanks for any info about getting these or other protectors that might be available!

It sounds interesting

I'll have to look more into that as a mod for my car. I don't know what it is but it sounds interesting, I have a few theories as to what it is according to the title of the product. Man, so many mods so little money... I'll look on the favorite mods section of this site. In case it's not to detailed, can you give me a exact idea of what it is? Is it a place to put your left foot on whenever your driving. Or does it help keep the mats in place, from sliding all over. Or does it catch dirt or help keep the interior carpets cleaner? As I park near dirt all the time and I always seem to track dirt into my car and it's a constant battle to always make sure my shoes are over the black mat instead of the gray interior carpet.

My next mod I guess will be tinting, then stereo system, then rear view mirror w/ compass/temperature.

Sweet. I'm all about protecting the carpet/interior/exterior anything I can protect. I want to keep it looking new as long as possible. If you/anybody finds an alternative that does something simialr I'm interested. To bad they went under. grr.

Count me in as well. I have tried contacting other Honda accessory providers that I have used for my other vehicles and have had little success. They make dead pedal covers that are metal, but they don't know if they would also fit the Insight. I would prefer to buy one specificly made for our car if I can. Keep us updated on this part.

Sorry...been very busy at work, haven't been keeping up with posts here.
I contacted my friend - the company he works for is more interested in large-scale production. :(

HOWEVER, they lease space in their shop to a guy who does more "piece work"stuff. I am working on getting in touch with him to see if he's interested. :)

Anyone interested in seeing the footrest - there's a picture on the Yahoo Insight newsgroup's file section, I believe. If not, PM me and I'll shoot you a pic of mine.

At 45,000 miles, my 2000 Honda Insight had a hole worn down to the rubber backing on the driver's side floormat. The passenger side was curled and twisted by the entry/exit habits of my wife. I forgot to retrieve them when I pulled stuff from the wreckage, but then I guess I should just get new ones for the new Insight when it comes in.

It would be nice to have something to stop the next hole from forming. Do these metal parts have any sort of traction surface on them?

No...no traction...its really designed as a simple place to rest your foot, so I don't think traction is necessary (maybe not even advisable). I'm still hoping to hear back on the potential manufacturer I have lined up. I may have to take a day off work and go visit him.
I'll keep everyone posted as soon as I hear something!
