I like mice. They're cute. We have them at our computer shop, and they provide hours of entertainment...

However, in a car or house, they can do a lot of damage. I have had excellant luck with ultrasonic repellers. Most run on 9-12V, so you can run it in the car 24 hours a day off the 12V battery.

Humane traps work relativly well too, and you can get some entertainment with the little critter after you catch (make a maze ).

Mice don't normally attack rubber coated wires. They really like the older tar and paper wires used in knob-and-tube wiring (older houses).
