Another option that will in no way ever, EVER be available in the US.

Why? (read this is a fist-shaking-into-the-air "why," not a question).

• Diesel fuel costs more than gasoline in the U.S. unlike in Europe, so fuel cost savings wouldn't be as great in the U.S.

• It might be difficult to meet U.S. diesel emissions standards (particulates, NOx) which must be tougher than those in Europe.

• The initial cost of a diesel engine is more than an "equivalent" gasoline engine. I feel (no proof) that Americans react more (compared to Europeans) to immediate cost savings rather than to long-term cost savings, so a more expensive diesel Civic might not sell well in the U.S.

• Europeans have been driving diesel cars for many years, but the poor experience of American purchasers of G.M. diesel cars may make Americans shy away from diesel cars.
