Having recently moved, and been stung by a main dealer for £300 ($600) at my last service, I’m on the hunt for a good independent garage for servicing/ MoT. Preferably this would be a Honda specialist.

Does anyone have any idea how I can track one down, Googling doesn’t seem to help much? Better still, anyone got any tips for garages in the Brighton/ East Sussex area!?!

Cheers

Hmm tricky.

Do it yourself is my advice. I do now. ;)

A decent Honda Dealer will at least have access to the workshop manuals, an independent won't, unless you buy them like I did. They are invaluable for most jobs. If you intend keeping the car and want to get your hands dirty I thoroughly recomend buying a set (Workshop and Electrical Manuals) :D

E-Bay about £50.00 from US.

Sorry Ed, reads like the auto business is very different on your side of the pond. Back here in the States independent "Mom & Pop" repair shops out number dealers many to one.

The basics of repair and maintenance for the Insight aren't much different than any other Honda of the same vintage. Its the IMA system that all but the best would shy away from.

Thankfully IMA problems are rare.

Honda Shops

Does anyone know a reliable Honda Shop in the DC/VA/MD metro area? I found a tread about some of the local dealerships but no one really said they favored one over the other that was closer to the metro area. :)

Thanks for the advice everybody. I think I'll get the local garage to do MoTs, tyres, etc and go to the main dealer for the annual service. Should keep the cost down.

Peter - I'd love to do my own work, I do all my own servicing on my mountain bike (has discs, shocks, etc can't be too different :) ) and I'll do a basic car maintenance course later this year. Unfortunately I haven't got off road parking though so working on the car is a bit tricky.
