Got a late start and only got half the new seats installed. Spent lots of time grinding, cutting, and welding.

I should have it all done by tomorrow evening. They are RX8 seats in case anyone wonder.

Wow, that looks great. How much were they?

$120 for both seats. I paid my friend $100 for helping me weld the brackets in.

Really nice job.
and rather easy to find, because RX8s are going to the junk heaps faster than they were manufactured. because renesis garbage. the cars lost value so quick that the owners wouldn't even have me rebuild the engines because it cost as much as the cars were worth, so now you see them parted out all over craigslist.

aside from the rotor logo, they almost look like they were made for an insight. not to mention the recliner handle is in the correct place, they also have a seat base tilt function, that the insight doesn't have. the side supports hold you in place better too, since they were made for a sports sedan.
2004 to 2011 are all the same, they come in cloth and leather, some come in red/black leather. the premium models had power and heated leather seats though i always preferred the cloth because its cooler and easier to clean, as well they last longer with less maintenance. there are other colors available too but they are addons and a bit rare. as well companies actually make seat covers for them, because there are a lot of them out there, though i wouldn't be surprised if less than half of them still actually are running.

yes, they are quite comfortable for long distance driving or for taking your car to the track(and i don't mean slow course hypermiling track).

$120 is a steal though, plenty of folks use the RX8 seats in other cars because they are nice seats and plentiful due to the failure of those cars. normally they go for $250 a pair and up in decent condition, however you could buy a blown RX8 for about $1k or less now for reference sake, they do make decent conversion cars because the original powerplant isn't worth bothering with, but now i'm just rambling about random stuff.

the cloth is a microfiber like material, though i probably wouldn't be fond of it down here in the humid states. i like microfiber in dry climates, in these wet ones it feels sticky and gross when you perspire. that is one reason i hold onto my stock seats, but if i had a choice of ones to use instead, it would probably be these.
Did you take any pictures or measurements of the brackets needed to install?

This is the template I used, adjust it for your use. Welding is require, bolt and nuts won't work. We used strip metal, and 1x2 metal tubes. I can take pictures later.

Did you need to use any of the parts from the Insight seats? I'm thinking of putting on the black and red leather rx-8 seats with power and heat and am wondering if I can sell the old seats or if they will be gutted to do the swap.

I did not need to use any parts from the insight seats. You will have to weld in the seat belt mounting points on the RX7 seats bracket.
Always wanted to have an RX8. Until I've learned that stalling a cold engine kills it.
So what did you think about the upgrade in ride comfort? Does it make the Insight a comfortable car to drive? Mine is extremely uncomfortable and makes my back hurt the next day.
